so i borrowed a trailer to try it out and more than likely going to get one, my question is

is where exactly do you park the rig on it. here is a pic of where i had it, but didnt know if it was to far foward or to far back. any rule of thumb to follow?

any help would greatly be appreciated.

That looks pretty good to me. I shoot for 60% of the weight on the front.
If anything you might have been able to move back a couple of inches, but the truck doesn't look too loaded down and you definitely don't want too little tounge weight.

i figured i was close, and it didnt bounce or lift the rear of the truck to much when hitting bumps. i could tell it was there but not like scary lifting if that makes sense

Believe me you'll know when its wrong . I had moved many a fj40 and set them on the trailer the same way . When I picked up my bj70 years ago I figured same wheelbase load it the same way. the person was 2 blocks away from the hwy. Oh s*** was I wrong as I cleared all four lanes of the Parkway when it started to sway  . When i got it pulled over, got my heart back in my chest and pulled a full seat bottom out of my ass. Looked at the tires on the trailer and they were clean all the way to a inch of the bead on the side walls from the sway.
I now knew that wasn't the right spot . Moving it forward just 3 inches made all the difference and towed fine the rest of the way home.
It took me an hour to get home and the Cruiser :princess: knew something had happened as both my brother and I were still white as a sheet.
I now give everything I tow a test run before I head out on my trip from now on.

I always try to get the fender to tire clearance equal on the tandems. has worked great for years.

Tongue weight needs to be at least 10% of the load. I drive my cruiser forward until my tundra's rear springs are almost on the overload leafs, if that does anything for you.

Yep.

Watch the back of your pick up when you load. When is squats a little bit you know you have it close.

You need to figure out how to load it quickly and safely. From the looks of that photo the HOA is right around the corner with the city code enforcement officer right behind. Silly camcruiser13, didn't they tell you that "Normal" people don't own trailers, tow rigs, or recreational vehicles?

Thats what RV parking behind the fence is for.

Agreed. 60% is about right. What really sucks is having to pull off the highway and unload the trailer so you can move forward 4" and then reload all the other crap on the trailer in 90 degree full sun Wyoming.
