I use my '97 LX450 as a DD, and the front tires didn't pass safety inspection so I have to buy new ones. Just wondering where most people buy their tires, what brand you recommend, and where the best deals are?

Thanks in advance!

Also, is it bad to just replace the two front tires?

Safety inspection on tires? Where do you live?

tirerack.com

Utah, you have to do it once a year.

Glad to hear you like tire rack, I'll look there. Is it bad to replace the front two tires with different tires from the rear two?

replace all 4, same size and tread pattern ;)

Americas tire/discount tire. I recommend a tire that says Made in USA on its sidewall.

Costco, BFG ATs. One of the few places you can get deals on tires here in Hawaii, but I imagine they are pretty competitive stateside.

Its not a big deal to replace only the front or back tires but its not optimal either. If you do replace the fronts switch the backs to the front and put the new ones on the back, you always want to have the better tires on the back. A Toyota dealership near me had a good deal one tires a couple months ago and I picked up 4 for the 100 series.

I ordered some tires from Discount Tire via ebay, they were running a special promo, a manufacturer rebate, always free shipping and no sales tax. Read reviews, pick what you want and then shop around for a while. Also seems like a lot of chain places will price match. I ended up with 4 285/75/16 Cooper ATPs for $770 installed.

I always try to buy my tires from TireRack.com. I always try to call the same sales guy and he usually remembers me. I had ordered 2 tires the other day for a car of mine. I went on their website and narrowed it down to 3 different kumho tires. I then called and talked to my sales guy and he helped me decide from the 3. I told him what I wanted out of the tire. He basically filled me in saying one of the tires was due to be discontinued very soon. Another pretty soon and the 3rd was the new model. So if I wanted to get 2 more in the future I should get the 3rd option.
That's why I go to Tire Rack!! I was able to randomly call the sales guy up and bring up questions about any tire and they knew the ins and outs of all of them. I don't think you'd find that anywhere else and you know you're getting the right tire for your needs. Not just something the local tire place has in stock to make a sale. Plus they have pretty good prices. Shipping is really fast too.

I buy at one of the tire shops in my small town, always have. They can get any tire I want for only slightly more than the online warehouses. I prefer to keep it local.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I'm probably going to order some from tirerack since they are so much cheaper than even Costco or Walmart.

I bought tires last month and found the best deal at 4wheelparts.com. Service was excellent.

eBay...once or twice a year they have outstanding prices...they have $100 off with purchase of $400 or more...do 5 separate transactions and by 37" tires for $300 plus free shipping!

Mine come from Desert Rat, Cooper, made in the USA. Small tires are easy, with bigger tires most chain stores wont mount them.

there are 2 local shops here and they get tires witin 25 bucks of the online places. since they mount and balance for free it comes out to around the same price.

i use tirerack.com to read the reviews and do research. Once I've decided on the tire I like, I call a handful of local shops, check tirerack.com , discounttiredirect.com, amazon.com, ebay and whatever else I can think of to find the best price.

FWIW, discount tire charges over double the cost of my local peerless for a mount and balance.

Get all 4. Running different sized tires can cause damage to the viscous coupler in your transfer case.

I do what Heckraiser does...research at tirerack... then look elsewhere for the best deal. If buy from tirerack, they have a distribution center here in Louisiana, and I have to pay tax and shipping.

Discount Tire Direct...no tax and free shipping. Tread Depot sometimes has specials with free shipping. Buddy here at a local shop mounts and balances them for me cheap.
