I need to buy a bolt to hold and lock my hi-lift jack like this one below. Anyone know where I can get one?

Throw a cable gun lock of padlock on it, a sawzall or hack saw can cut a bolt in 15 minutes. This is what I did: image-3221105278.webp

Oaks...drilling a hole with a handheld drill and a vise won't bugger up the threads?

Cruisermat, I will be mounting it to a spare tire carrier with this, so not sure where I would drill a hole to accept a Master Padlock

The mount in your pic- will the two threaded studs be horizontal and the jack will slide over these? Just trying to picture it. If so, one of the studs could be removed, and a padlock used in the hole where the stud was. Then the second stud would still accept the wing nut to keep it snug.

no, it will be mounted vertically to my custom built spare tire carrier on my rear swing outs. So I need both bolts to hold the jack stiff and sturdy. I wish I had planned for it to mount on my swing arms, but didn't. too late. I don't want it up on my rack for various reasons.

If someone steals my $81 jack with bolt cutters, I think I'll get over it. Not that many people carry them with them. I just want to reduce the chances, not eliminate all possibilities. I want it to be functional, and not get in my way too too much. Just reasonable protection.

I had a Scepter Gas can stolen off the back of my truck with a thick cable lock. So I know how easy cables can be cut. that can was almost impossible to replace. The hi-lift won't. I think it was stupid to leave the cans mounted. Now I bring them in. I don't' want to have to bring the jack in every night. I use the cans rarely. The jack should always be there.

thanks for all the input, guys!

There's very little you can do to stop a determined thief. What you want to try to stop is the "passer-by criminal" who knows an opportunity when he sees one. Get one of these:

by "one of these", you mean the lock? I have never seen one of those. That is the cable gun lock mentioned earlier?

looks like they are no more expensive, and easy to find on Amazon:

I use a padlock & cable to secure mine...probally something like a bike lock setup... someone can get it but they will have to at least work a little bit.

You just want to make it LOOK hard to take. The only truly secure way would be to weld the jack to the body. What's preventing someone grime just unbolting walking away with my roof rack?

Just put it under the rear bench seat. Fits great

Hey mate,

It would be easier to drill a hole, yes put the bolt in a vice between 2 pieces of wood, that way the thread will not get damaged. Then drill a small pilot hole first and then drill the desired size that you require.

99% of thieves (scum of the earth) will walk past anything with a lock on it and steal the next one without:censor:.

So go for it.

Put a nut on the bolt below the hole before you drill it, then when you take the nut off, it will unbugger the threads.

Why not drill through the nut? Center punch the flat surface, and when you unthread the nut it cleans up any burrs and it only costs a nut, unless you want to also put the lock through the nut as well, which would be a really good idea too!

looks like you've got a bunch of good options! :) I like the gun-lock idea because its flexible and will be easier to work with. Punch a hole in the mount not the bolt and then put the gun lock through it.

do not use a cheap Master lock. I can pick those in under a minute now
