Wheel bearing? Failed wobble test.

So I installed A pair of 865s myself in the rear and cranked the torsion bars upfront. Love it by the way. Good ride with stock shocks.

When I took it in for an alignment, tech noticed the front wheels were moving up and down when rocked. Said I needed wheel bearings --which he'd gladly do both fronts for 800 bucks.

I saw the wobble and have noticed some wear on my tires' outer edge. Definitely some play. Also slinging some grease from the CVs, but that was known and I had planned on reclamping those.

Do I need new wheel bearings? Anything else I should check like tie rod ends or bushings?

Complete bearing kits for both sides is about $160+\-

Mud friendly vendor; Cruiser Outfitters stocks the complete Timken (Oem)kits including snap rings, thrust washers, lock nuts and the socket tool for the job.

Do it yourself, and know it's done correctly for less than $250.
 
Front end should be lower than rear (stink bug). You'll "wonder" down the highway otherwise.
Check all suspension bushings front to rear.
Check tie rods and ball joints.

  1. Steering racks' bushing that secure rack to cross member often get sloppy and need replacing.
  2. Wheel bearing are very often set to loose. Most shop just don't know how or take the time to set breakaway preload.
  3. Snap ring gap (hub flange to snap ring) is very often to wide. Shop rarely check the gap.
Loose wheel bearings along with wide snap ring create chatter (vibration) and a sawing action. This damages bearings & races, hub flange, snap ring, spindle and front drive shafts. Tires not balanced add to above issues.
