Had a lot harder time on my drivers side than passenger side with rust when doing the tear down for front wheel bearings. Looks like the brake dust shield plastic shoulder has separated from the metal neck. I’m thinking water is getting in and living there and rusting everything. Logical? Replacement required? Replace just four rusty bolts away?

I'd replace the dust seal, the smaller metal ring with degraded rubber, at the very least (9031399001) to keep dust/water out of the bearings and fresh grease.

I replaced all these components last time I did the wheel bearings, you'll also need the DS brake dust cover (4778260110), 4X bolts (9011908571), and the gasket (4343660020) for a full refresh.

Thank you for the part numbers and second opinion!

Agree with @JAntosch. Definitely replace the "dust seal" 9031399001. Unless the larger outer shield is bent or rusted thru, I would not replace. Bolts should be OK too if they come out w/o issue.

Hit all that with brake cleaner or degreaser to make life a bit easier.
