This was a fun project.
Having read the horror stories and wanting to take preventative measures, I made my own Cat Shields.
I work in IT and have a 10-year-old Mac Pro in need of recycling.
I admire the beefy aluminum side panels of the case...
I'm fixing the leaks in my 01 LX. Putting in new valve cover gaskets cleaned up and dried out the top of my engine very nicely.
At the bottom I still have oil leaks around the oil filter and maybe under the crank. Please see photos.
If it is a...
Thanks guys. You were exactly right about the center lock button. It was depressed. I must have bumped it with my knee or pressed it instead of hazard switch.
Now the problem is that the light for it on the dash does not illuminate. I will have...
On the center console of the land cruiser/LX there is a locking center transfer case button, it has an "X" in the middle drive shaft picture of the car. Make sure that is not enabled, as if that is on it locks the center diff and can give your...
When I turn my LX hard left or right it "drags" and wants to come to a complete stop on its own. I have to give it some gas to complete the turn. No noise that I can hear.
Currently when driving straight there is no issue that I can tell but I...
I was able to fix my issue for only $0.25. While I was piddling around in the shop I found a quarter. I put it in my bench vise and bent it to fit around the pedal shaft. I then test fit it to make sure it allowed the brake lights to go off...
I went through this thread pretty thoroughly, so if this has been covered feel free to roast me.
I found a cheaper alternative to getting a replacement reservoir for these trucks if you aren't in need of the metal bracket. I can thank an old...
That looks like the cross member pipe going from driver side over to muffler.
If its not welded then you can buy a new aftermarket pipe for $75. I used walker. Add bolts and flanges.
I hate exhaust shops that weld crap together. Bolts better IMO...
Also check out Partsouq. They've got a slightly more user-friendly interface, but pricing varies higher and lower so do your research on each part. The price differences can be huge.
Impex is a Russian company pulling parts out of Japan...
Just wanted to mention this in case it helps anyone on the topic of capping rear AC. I used a cap kit that screws into the tubes that sits behind the passenger wheel. No cutting required.
Here's the kit I ordered ($70): Rear AC block kit for...
203,000 miles on my 06 LX with the original AHC, just checked pressures in Techstream just to see how they were holding up. Still in the specified range front and rear after multiple off-road trips and some accidental jumping over large "whoops"...
I ordered on the last two sales - Thanksgiving, then Christmas a few weeks later so I could buy a rad for under the tree. Now Presidents day. Seems to be right around a major holiday. If I was betting, I would predict the next one to be...
I've had a misfire from a bad injector. Have you checked all your injectors? I placed a long socket extension against an injector with the engine running, and held the other end to my ear, and could tell which one was bad because it wasn't...
You may try to remove the Serpentine belt and turn the alternator by hand. It should turn with a little resistance. If its very hard to turn, the bearings are failing.
You can hear the noise in the background at the beginning. Then at about 20 seconds you can hear it after I take my foot off the accelerator going up the hill.
I have a "whirring" or "whistling" noise at the front right of the engine. Has worsened over past 2 years. It used to be quiet and go away after 10 minutes of driving.
Now the noise is consistently present and it varies with engine RPM when...
When I did my front suspension I also used POR-15 (as the OP used on the frame) on LCA and so on. Did the Metal Prep of POR-15 as well.
Wire brush --> wash off with degreaser --> Metal Prep --> wash with degreaser --> 2-x layers POR15 brushed on
