Although I'm sure you meant that in a funny way, it's really a good question. What have the experienced pros on the board decided they really don't need. What do you no longer carry that you used to? Or is that a silly question!A better Q for mine would be… what’s NOT in my tool kit…![]()
True Gaffers tape does not come off with waterOne not-well-known issue with gaffers tape is that if it gets wet, even after already applied, it becomes useless. Will slip right off whatever it is stuck to.
Or at least the type we used to identify our ladders.. but it was a major brand at the time.
Have a brand name? Gaffer power is what we used, and would come right off bumper mounted tools or our ladders if left in the rain. Otherwise the texture was great.True Gaffers tape does not come off with water![]()
I can’t claim to be an experienced pro at anything but it has been my experience that slip joint pliers are not the right tool for 99.999% of any job.Although I'm sure you meant that in a funny way, it's really a good question. Knipex are my favorite pliers followed NWS.Unfortunately a bunch of aftermarket manufacturers for the 200 use standard hardware, so carrying a small collection of SAE tools is necessary for me.
I also carry slip joint pliers, although I didn't know they were called that until I just googled that. We just called them pliers. I also carry needle nose, and my favorite: knipex pliers.
Pro-Gaff or TecNec Both widely used in the movie industry where I worked for over thirty yearsApologies if this has now turned into a tape thread.

I keep the following in a small rubbermaid action packer for all but around town trips:
Leatherman multi tool
Small Metric socket Set - it's about 6x6x2" and has shallow and Deep metric sockets 10mm-18mm
1 Extra serpentine belt
Snatch Strap
2 Shackles
Snatch Block
Receiver Shackle
Zip Ties
Battery Jump Box
Misc NRS Tie down Straps
2lb Hammer
Pair of work gloves
Maybe a few other odds and ends that I forgot.
In the open storage compartment on the left of the tailgate I keep the following so it's always in the truck:
Winch Controller
Jumper Cables
Tire Gage
It's nice to always have the jumper cables and minimum winching supplies just in case.
My listed Items just barely fit, and they tie in fine with the two straps in there. No noise or rattling to speak of. I'd imagine a canvas tool roll that was rolled losely then flattened MIGHT fit in there also.I've always wondered what people carry in their open storage compartment in the tailgate. I'd really like to find a tool roll or hardcase box to fit additional tools in.
Use Racer tape, will hold a body together at 200 mph in the rain. One not-well-known issue with gaffers tape is that if it gets wet, even after already applied, it becomes useless. Will slip right off whatever it is stuck to.
