Hey Mud.

Had the timing and valve covers resealed and water pump and tensioner pully replaced this week. Picked up the truck yesterday. (2013 LC 121k miles)

On the way home yesterday, felt a quick stutter — like when you almost stall driving a stick shift. Caught my attention but drove normal after.

Today drove about 40 miles, happened again, this time for a few seconds, on the freeway doing 65mph. Felt “sputtery” then went back to normal.

Could this be related to the work done? What should I check/investigate while I get in contact with the shop?

The truck has never done this before. Also: no dashboard lights/no codes yesterday (checked OBD fusion)

Thanks in advance.

They would have removed all the coil packs to do the valve covers.. might as well make sure all of those electrical connectors are tight.

And dialogue with the shop that did the work wouldn’t hurt. Let them know it’s acting up after the job.. if they are worth sticking with they’ll probably want to look into the issue.

Thanks fellas.
I’ve left a message for the shop. I’ll go check the coil connections.

x2 on a coil. Mine showed up most at 65mph, light load, low rpm. At higher RPMs the other cylinders mask the one that slightly misses. Could be a bad connection, could be a coil pack that is going unrelated to the repair. Mine eventually got bad enough to throw a code, but not initially.

Dropped the truck off at the shop.

Using OBD fusion, I was able to see a misfire for a quick second on #4, when getting on the freeway.

They suspect water intrusion from when they steam cleaned the engine. They’re retesting timing and gonna pull all the coils to check em out.
