The first time I cleaned out my AC fan it was about half full of debris...doubled the air volume through the vents after cleaning.
This time I started to hear some rattling in the fan while running....nice and quiet with good air flow now.

What's in yours...?

Don't you have to take apart the whole dash to get to the fan? I've never even looked but I'll rip mine apart later today if it's easy to get to.

super easy ... mine had a mouse house :bang:

hmmm...I think I need to do that.

Great reminder! Could I bother you to give a quick description of this process...which screws/bolts, any 'got'chas', etc?

It's SUPER Easy.

Just look at the passenger foot well.. stick your head down there and look at the bottom of the dash and you'll see the fan motor right next to the interior panel where your right foot would hit.. It is held to the bottom of the duct work with 3 Phillips screws. Undo them and detach the power wire from the fan and viola, it's out.

The fan motor is about the size of a soup can and has the wires on it.

Done and Done!

Thanks man. I'll do that tonight, methinks.

Do we have a 'filter', too? I mean...not like a real filter on these fancy new cars, but I feel like theres a foam filter thing.

looks pretty much the same. It took me longer to go in and grab a camera then it did for me to remove clean and reinstall.

nope, nada, it allows everything by, that's why you have all that moab dust and leaves everywhere...

Great post! I had my hopes up that mine would be dirty to get additional flow but it was clean.

hhhmmmmm....I wonder if it would be hard to add a cabin filter?

Hmmm...nothing in mine. I was hoping to find some contraband or something cool...

opg4959a is smuggling water oak and willow oak leaves!

I had a piece of the underhood insulating pad in mine. You know the A/C coil in the dash is crudded up on all of our rigs but it isn't as easy to get to.

I know all of us would benefit from more air and colder air if the fan and coil were cleaned.

Yeah, I'd like to do that too...no idea where it is or how to get to the coils.

Dont forget there is a rubber gasket between the fan motor housing and the duct where it attaches...easy enough to catch...jus' sayin'.

I just checked the AC fan in the Sequoia because it started rattling a few weeks ago...small stick stuck in the fan blades...all smooth now.

i thought we were friends!!!!

Damn Bryce i thought were were friends, ok the fan deal is a slam dunk.. 3 screws pop it out, dump the birds nest and move on.. but oh no... now i have to clean the damn coil.. after searching etc. i say to hell with it and go out in the 100 degree weather this shouldnt be hard, hell I never did get the bottom off the evap "bucket" i could feel some clips on the back side but almost impossible to get to... hell with it.. i sprayed some de greaser the best i could hosed it out, and did get some crud out. but daymn ! its gonna have to stay kinda clogged till a cooler day and you tell me how to get the damn thing apart !! :D
see ya Dave

Be glad that she saves it up. It's clear she doesn't have a hole in her hand!

Hey Slacker 24-7 my email may not have had all the facts. Yes there are some of the same clips as on the dashboard side. You also have to disconnect the two lines on the firewall side to pull the plastic box and evaperator coil out. I thought since you hadn't charged the systemit would be a good time to clean it. You can take the floorboard fasteners off and get about a 3" wide gap in the box and clean most of it.

BG Products has some FrigiClean that uses a screw into the box and fill the box full of cleaning foam. I question how well it gets the crud out.

You will be amazed how much more airflow you get and you will net 4 to 5 degrees cooler air out the vents. Checked mine with a digital thermometer from the kitchen!
