What’s a good deal right now on a 200, how many miles?

I have searched for a good deal on a 100 or 200 series land cruiser for 1.5 years but obviously hard to find with used car prices being so high right now.

My budget is $25k and I’m not in a hurry. I was just curious what would be a fair deal on a 2008 and with how many miles. A realistic deal that I would need to jump on. There are a few that have popped up with 194,000- 225,000 miles in this price range. I would just want it to last 10 years after I bought it with minimal issues other than replacing typical parts.

Or should I be looking for a nicer 100 series? I really just want a land cruiser with as few miles as possible that will easily last 10+ years for under $25k.

Any knowledge would help! Especially with experience of buying a 200k mile land cruiser and lasting a long time after. Or what you recently paid for a used land cruiser. Or if there’s another thread already going over this- I saw one similar but for a GX.

Really appreciate the help!

Are you set on a Land Cruiser or would the LX570 be ok too?

LX570 would be okay. Not my first choice only bc it feels flashier, but from what I’ve researched just as dependable maybe.

How many miles per year do you plan on driving this 200K+ vehicle? What do you intend to use it for? I only ask because one of the two might be better fit depending on how you plan to use it. Any 100 or 200 series that has been properly maintained will easily go 300-350K before major items might need to be considered but there will be preventative maintenance and wear and tear items along the way i.e. water pump, alternator, plugs, timing chain/belt, starter, radiator, brakes, etc.

In this current market you'll likely have more options of 100's falling within your price range but I am positive you can likely find a higher mile early 200 for that money as well. Stay patient and keep looking diligently as trucks in the sub $30K range don't last long when they do come available.

@Tex68w I’ll probably drive 3,000-5,000 miles a year. Fishing trips once a month, camping with the family a few times a year, and running errands of course. Work from home so I don’t drive much, plus we have a 4Runner as well that will split time.

That’s good to know $30k and under would be a competitive price range for these vehicles. Helps me pull the trigger next time I see something good.

I just recently bought a 2013 LX 570 with 121k miles on CarMax for 37k (I also ended up getting the CarMax warranty which will pay for itself - 2k$) I had originally been looking at 06-07 100 series for 25-27k$ but the prices were too close to 200 series to make it worthwhile

I had been looking for some time but I would say 200 series under 30k will be tougher if you care about where the cars been or the package and color. You will most likely have to go for something around 200k miles or a earlier 2008-2009 example

Good luck!

My only fear with the one in MN is the underside and rust. If it has spent more than a winter or two up there then I bet it looks like hammered dog s*** underneath, I'd definitely inquire and request pics of the underside.

Yeah I was confused seeing 06-07 100 series close to the 200 price in some cases.

Good to know, I appreciate it!

Oh yeah, I currently drive a rusty MN truck ironically (my beater truck) and I want to at least get away from rust. Plus getting the wife to understand why I should fly across the country to bring back a vehicle would be difficult haha.

I bought mine up here - 2014 LC that spent its entire life in Minnesota. Had the sales guy send a video of the under side of the vehicle while it was up on a lift. There was nothing of substance relative to rust, had an impeccable service history and was a decent deal. However, I have seen severely rusted versions up here as well. So get pictures or video prior to buying a ticket. JMO

I bought mine in Dec 2020 with nearly the same shopping strategy/goals. I"ll second the 200 over 100. I was shopping for the nicest 100 I could find (prepared to spend 18-25k) and found that the upper range of 100s overlapped with the lower end of 200s price wise. Ultimately went with a 200, because I found a good deal on a low mile but cosmetically not so great LX200. LC200s have gotten pretty ridiculous at this point. It's tough to find anything under 30k anymore. LX200s can still get down into mid 20s if they have 150k+ miles. I paid 24k with 101K miles but with 15ft paint (and hail damage on roof) and not great leather (luckily no tears, but a bad redye). I would have still bought a 100 if the right one came up, but I definitely lowered my max i'd pay for a 100 to under 20k once i realized LX200's could be had for the same price.

That’s great info, and for sure. Leaning towards 200, but like you said- if a nice 100 comes up for under $20k then that may be what I do. Crazy their prices overlap but I’m not hating it either lol.

I just picked up a 2008 Magnetic Grey LC with 115k for 30k this past week.

Just noticed this one for sale, looks pretty clean but I would ask for underbody pics.

To answer "what's a good deal"... anything approaching pricing from a year ago is a steal at this point.

Basically, your timing isn't good.

I would strongly suggest looking at LX if you want to stay close to 25k, and plan to spend ~$600 on AHC globes. Those are the one wear item in higher mileage LXs that seem to need to be done. The drivetrain is the exact same, and LXs often have more of their maintenance done by mechanics that actually know the vehicle. LCs are so rare dealers often screw them up.

Prices are all over the place right now. Glad I got mine in 2019 before the jump. I watched all the car sites for a while before getting mine. Best advice I can give is to be ready to jump on it. If you wait a day or two it will be gone.

I would of paid 30 for 115k mile 200 as well, nice snag! And nice find on the NJ Craigslist. That is a good deal depending on the rust situation.

Talked it with the wife, we have to finish renovating our bathroom before we buy a cruiser- too much for her at once to deal with 😂. So in about 6-8 weeks hopefully something will come up. I appreciate it.

Ohh that’s a great point about the LX’s…. I knew they are more designed towards dealership/shop maintenance. Great info on the AHC globes. Really great points. Thanks!

Yeah no joke! We bought our 2013 4 runner with 130k miles for $15k 2 years ago and now people are asking $25k for the same thing.
Good to know for sure, in 6-8 weeks when we finish our bathroom renovation we will be ready to pounce.
