You should drive it. Get it on the highway, take it through the paces. Check all the fluids. Check the compression. Make sure the transfer case engages correctly. Look for leaks. The positive terminal on the battery looks a little scary to me - where are all those wires headed? If the truck really is rust free, drives well, and runs good - then I wouldn't have any problems paying 7k. 6K would be better, but trucks hovering around the 5-6k mark are getting real hard to find, in decent condition - especially with all the hipsters snatching them up.
Yeah I'd love to get behind the wheel and feel everything out and be able to go through all the necessary pre inspection list. Unfortunately the truck is 6 hours away and I won't have time for a week or two. Who knows if it'll hang around that long. My only hope is to get someone to respond to me in the Clubhouse section from the club down there who'd be willing to do some investigating for me.

I agree. If the jambs and inside are still red, price went down $1,500

This... this has me concerned when I first saw the engine bay. I can understand doing a paint job because you dont like that color but that leads me to believe that there is something covered up under that paint job (ask me how I know). With that it also looks to be a carb'd sbc so unless you are really liking messing with carbs you might want to take that into consideration when you are looking at the possible costs to keep it running well.

And like with any of these vehicles, you need to drive them first before you can really, truly make a determination. That means flying/driving to the vehicles location with the intent that you may end up turning around and flying/driving home empty handed. While the idea of the SBC sounds nice, with it being done by a PO (not necessarily professionally) you will have hacks and whatnot that you will have to go through and possibly fix. This all needs to play into your process of what you want to do with the truck. If you expect it to be a turn-key daily driver you MAY be sorely disappointed.

Is everyone just scared of carburators now days? Whats next, manual chokes and that scarry third pedal for the clutch?

Ok so a few things
The headers are the ram horn style and it could be an older engine.
Edelbrock intake and a riser on the carb (I am betting it is a carb)/ throttle body.
The use of the Toyota steering pump makes me wonder how that setup is and getting new lines made up for the correct pump is not that hard.

Lots of questions like others said on the body.

Look at the rear wheel wells. Bring a magnet for sure.

Check that trans and see how it was done.
If a GM trans. Check the transfer case and that rear drive shaft to see if it was done right.
