We got both axles underneath it and have it resting on both axles, so we could measure for shock length. Front measured at 24 inches on level surface, rear measured 25 inches. Both had about 4 inches up travel to bump stop.

Don’t think it’s worth spending the money on fox shocks on a rock hopper. Would like to get these ordered today, anyone have suggestions on what brand to look at?

You mean shocks weren't included in the kit you bought?

don't get me started on shocks. This and seats will make the day very different for you in the long run from a comfort argument. If its selecting length I can help. other wise spend as much as your comfortable with. for quick and simple rancho has a book you can down load to get what you need with all the options.

id guess there for a jeep but with part numbers you will know end type and length (compressed/extended)

Or use a chart similar to this for Bilstein. I seem to recall the 80 has a stem upper mount. Bilstein 5125 Shock: Universal
Use the tractor for compressed and extended lengths.

The fox shocks in the back are probably the best upgrade ive done to my 80. I picked up a set off Ih8mud classifieds that were bolted up and found to be too long or something and sold almost new for cheap. Would do that again in a heartbeat (assuming I have the cash handy).

I have 14" travel bilsteins in the front, they are a bit light for the heavy donk, I should have something heavier rated.

@2fpower Did you weigh the new Volvo axles? That may play a role in which shock you choose, coupled with the wheel/tire combo you're planning on running. The "unsprung weight" that your shocks will be seeing will need to know this weight as well as the "sprung weight" for the other portion of the shock.

Tough Dog 45mm 9 way adjustable, tough shocks and you could dial them in? You may have to contact him as they are not listed.

Went and played at rendezvous in the Ozarks down at Byrd’s adventure center near Ozark Arkansas, just got back in town and started working and hit some complications here’s the first one The driveshaft was rebuilt locally because the sleeve the supposed to move in an out had a big dent in it and I didn’t allow movement. It appears they use the wrong size cause I can’t get the thing to move more than three-quarter inch. My plan is to cut the tack welds they did on the sleeve and use this week without any sleeve protection. If anyone in the Kansas City area as a bad driveshaft I will gladly take it off your hands, cut off the sleeve and tack it on this hardened and heavy driveshaft. Here’s the picture, the black driveshaft you can see about three-quarter Inch exposes and not painted, that’s all of the movement allows The dirty driveshaft shows you how much movement the stock has

The second issue is this steering front drag link. Here is how it sits in the car. As you can see when they remove this from the Volvo C303 they just torched off the tie rod end

Cell the here is the OD and ID of the stock Volvo rod. As you can see the ID is just over an inch

I was going to use a heavy duty trail gear Rod, but it is OD of 1.25 inch

So I went and looked and found a stock rod and it’s OD is 1.04 inch

So my plan is to clean up the stock Toyota rod and sand off 3 hundredths of an inch so that it will slide inside the Volvo rod, and weld it in. I understand that the only movement I’ll have on the drag link will be by taking it out of the steering arm and screwing the end.

Don’t see an issue with your plan. I have 1.5”OD 1”ID Dom to make custom. Taps for left and right go one ton ends and a ream to convert the arms.

Drill a few holes in the od shaft and plug weld to the Id shaft for good measure. Or team for 1 ton ends or ream for toyota ends. Any idea the taper of Volvo? With toyota or 1 ton you can pack some inserts and use heavy wall dom tube to make your rods. 4plus has really cool weld in inserts for 80 ends. Then just carry some spare stuff in the tow rig that would fix anyone in the group.

looking at shocks now. Can't find an application chart for Fox. I have the set of Fox 2.0 I bought from Malcolm for a 3" lift 80. I think these will work on the front, but not long enough for the back. I need about 20" compressed, same type of connection points as stock 80. Thinking about just grabbing some cheap shocks for now. searching for some sort of guide.
