Drill a few holes in the od shaft and plug weld to the Id shaft for good measure. Or team for 1 ton ends or ream for toyota ends. Any idea the taper of Volvo? With toyota or 1 ton you can pack some inserts and use heavy wall dom tube to make your rods. 4plus has really cool weld in inserts for 80 ends. Then just carry some spare stuff in the tow rig that would fix anyone in the group.

Don't want or need to mess with the Volvo ends, they have a real weird turn to the tie rod ends, so those I am keeping stock. The other rigs I seen use the same volvo ends and did full hydro push pull unit. Will have to see if I have pics of any hydro assist....

It looks good. It's almost too bad there wasn't a bit more dimensional overlap between the steering rods, you could run them through a tap and die and thread them together, then either weld or split the end and clamp.

FYI.... going to see what the ID of the stock tube is and see if I can put a solid stock inside of it also... that will make me feel a little better.

Shocks are being a bugger.

The rear axle bottom eye hole that is on the volvo axle needs to be 3/4. I forgot to measure the toyota to see if it is same diameter.

@GW Nugget has been very helpfup with some diminsions for Dobinson. they make them for 6-7" lift that are GS59-685, that are - 17.00" - 28.74".

I would prefer 20" compressed; however the mount is really low on the axle, so maybe I woudl be better off fabricating a new mount 3" higher and using those shocks.

@half k cruiser do you know what model 2.0 shocks I bought from you? I wonder what the compressed/extended specs are on them.

If there is a part number on the shock (typically bottom of the body where the shaft is). Send an email to fox. They have sent me drawings with original shim arrangements and what not in the past.

Pretty sure I have the exact same shocks you bought from Malcomb.

Should be the same ones, as I only see Fox selling 1 other set for our rigs, 1-1.5" lift.

Called Dobinsons..... did not talk to @David Otero , but the person I spoke with was very helpful and patient with me. I am sure most people tell them the vehicle and BAM, they know the answer.... me -- I have to say volvo military axle from the early 70's, way before disco was dead, and an 80 series top. Good luck with that.

They confirmed that stock 80 series have a 3/4 eye on the bottom and stem at top, so taht will work on Volvo bottom. They could not find a longer shock than the GS59-685 with the eye at the bottom and stem at top, so I just ordered the dobinsons 6" lift style unit that have the 17-29 range.

Thanks everyone for their thoughts.

Went and played at rendezvous in the Ozarks down at Byrd’s adventure center near Ozark Arkansas, just got back in town and started working and hit some complications here’s the first one The driveshaft was rebuilt locally because the sleeve the supposed to move in an out had a big dent in it and I didn’t allow movement. It appears they use the wrong size cause I can’t get the thing to move more than three-quarter inch. My plan is to cut the tack welds they did on the sleeve and use this week without any sleeve protection. If anyone in the Kansas City area as a bad driveshaft I will gladly take it off your hands, cut off the sleeve and tack it on this hardened and heavy driveshaft. Here’s the picture, the black driveshaft you can see about three-quarter Inch exposes and not painted, that’s all of the movement allows The dirty driveshaft shows you how much movement the stock has View attachment 1815041

On the driveshaft issue, I think Rob was going to try and take these back to Inland today to get their thoughts. It could be other issues, so will see what they say.

I have the stock shaft I got from you last year. If you need it back you are welcome to it.

Sounds right, but its been 2 years since I bought them.

Started on the driveshaft first, found that the splines were slightly tweaked, so touch them up with the die grinder and that was fixed. Not real happy with driveshaft company, has their excuse was they were paid to put a new end on and balance it. They took no responsibility for checking to see if it was good or bad.

And then started working on the front driveshaft. Ground off enough so that stock shaft would to go inside the Volvo, and found some solid stock to go inside the stock shaft

Then started trying to figure out where the Hydro assist will go. Thinking it will go right in front of the axle, just above the tie rod. Question, how heavy duty of a mount do I need on the case? Well these simple tabs work? Or should I weld those on to some quarter inch plate then weld the quarter plate onto the case? @jcardona1 @Wrench @nukegoat
