I am building a Fj40. Has lt1, sm465, np205, dodge dana 60 front.

I am told that I will have to use a set of 2.5in wide springs. I will be running SOA in front and mono link in rear.

After looking at the chart, I would like to see If I could get 56" to fit? But I really want to know what spring capacity I should get.
Will have a wench and bumper up front.

40 springs have been great for me up front setup SO for a lot of years. You really aren't going to want a longer spring up there, it jacks up aproach and wheel placement too much. My two cents anyway.

How about some Fj62 rear springs up front flipped? Going to be running 37"-40" tires.

56" springs up front are pretty long, at theat point you might want to think about adding something to keep side to side movement in check.

I think fj62 springs have an extra leaf, right? I'd run fj60 springs if I did it over. I have fj55 springs, and they're fine, but fj60 springs have a bigger spring eye, so bigger bushings. 56" is really long and with a linked rear you don't need that much extra flex in the front.

I've got flipped 60 series springs up front and they seem to work really well!
I limited the bumps and she still flexes really nice!

I like 40 series stockers as well . I find they flex well and are extremely tough .

Chicago, did you go with the 60 rears up front, or 60 fronts? I have 60 fronts on mine and after a few trips the rear sagged a couple inches and she has a bit of a squat to her. Due to the length of the spring I was thinking of throwing the 60 fronts on with the shackle through the frame (I out boarded and did a shackle reversal just like on your rig). Just curious what you were running.

I ran the fronts, in the front and re drilled the main and mil wrap leaves for the flip.
Mine is still sitting pretty level Even after some good hard wheelin.

Btw... If I had NOT extended the bump stops, those springs would have been run into a negative arch all the time and thus wearing out the springs BAD!!
Just a thought.

SOA with 60 fronts up front and 60 rears in the rear, with the shackle hanger reversed. the front moved forward about 1-1.5 inches and the rear moved back 2-3 inches and centered the axle in the wheel well better. It rides great on and off road. I highly recommend this setup.

Easy and simple. Great drive line protection, great flex, no axle wrap, but may have squating issue I hear. I am trying to build a cheap crawler.

Any reason why I should not ?

Odd handling and I spent a lot of time last tuesday welding one back up on a bronco that failed.

They are cheap and easy but just make it stupid strong and get used to the quirkyness of the setup.

Thanks for the info. I am making mine out of 3x3 sqare tubing 1/4" thick. Using a 3" ballistic joint that is rebuildable. Al;so my crossmember for the link will be made from 3x3, 1/4" thick steel. That should hold up pretty well. Using a 1.5" DOMS 1/4" wall tubing for the panhard.

Any other advice would be nice. Thanks again.
