I'm debating between the Recaro Specialist and Expert models. The Specialist is winning at the moment.
I tried the Specialist M at a Recaro dealer in Atlanta today; it was simply too narrow in the shoulders to be comfortable. I'll be looking into the Scheel-Mann Vario XXL.

Not to be rude but how tall are you and big?
It's not rude if it's germane to the discussion. Anatomically, I'm odd. I'm 6'3" but have stumpy 32" inseam legs; most of my height is pelvis up. I'm about 220 to 230 depending on the time of year and holiday eating habits. The Recaro was fine in the thigh, hip, and waist regions but the shoulders and upper back was awkward. It's really awkward when you're thinking about dropping $1500+ for something that's imperfect in fit. Premium prices demand a premium fit.
I find the stock manual seats in my 80 to need about another 2" of length for thigh support and the back could be 2" taller as well. The fact that they're 22 years old and worn out with nil lumbar support doesn't help.
I'll likely do a bit of informal fit testing at Overland Expo East. I may consider the junkyard route if I can find some late model WRX seats that don't look like a crime scene. Those seats are fantastic.

Do y'all think these will fit nicely in the 80? Found them on local Craigslist. Their from a Wrx not sure on the year but I believe their Recaro aswell. I'm awaiting measurements from the guys but I'd like to get the mud opinion.
I remember seeing a post where WRX seats were installed in an 80, so its been done, you should be able to search for it.

What did they do with the seat bracket?
Stock 80 bolted to wrx? Wrx seat rails bolt up to factory?

Here is what I do. I have never found the search on ih8mud to be all that great. So, go out to the place where the letters are black and there is a white background, to a world called Google. Type in ih8mud then whatever you are searching for. BINGO....

What year discovery are these?
Those are Subaru sti seats, I swapped wrx seats into my 97 legacy work car and i can say there very comfortable and I'm 6'5" 280.
They are from a 2003 Land Rover Discovery Kalahari Edition. Pretty much all Disco II seats look like that, I think the newer ones ~1999-2004 the seat wiring is way easier, I tried to pull some switches from an earlier model and it was a total mess. The Kalahari Edition has cloth middles and leather on the sides, though to be honest these are the only ones I have ever seen for sale. The all leather versions are just as nice and comfortable though. I have logged tons of miles on and off the trail with these guys, and I would never switch to anything else.
Has anyone on here ever done a bench seat on the front? I had a Dodge Ram with a bench in the fron and the fold down armrest. Very convenient, and room for three if needed. That would mean relocating he parking brake probably, but I like the benches instead the captains chairs. I do like the sports seats like those from a WRX though.

I found some LR seats; would loooove an armrest. @toadshade and others, are these worth the trouble to install? What do I need to make sure is included with the seat when I purchase? Thanks!!
Edit: these are electric seats off a '99 discovery but would range Rover seats work? There's a pair of those too; same price
