i wish i could get over 100:1 with out spending an ass load of cash, i had 106:1 in my wifes samurai and i loved the way it worked

Thanks always wondered what it was, I would have thought it was lower than that! I knew there was a reason why I always stall out:lol:

I'm no Math or Crawl ratio wizard but I own a calculator
6.55x2.313x4.88=73.9

 Stupid calculator! Thought that sounded low (high)....thanks for pointing out my dipstick math! :)

LOL.

242:1

:flipoff2:

I really think 200:1 would be perfect with my current setup on the 40's and even some 43's. the 170:1 works great with the 40's but sometimes and i do mean only on rare occasions I wish it was lower. bigger tires will make me wish that more often.

I'm at 200:1 and VERY rarely use it. Most of the time I use the 80:1 ratio.

Same here. I use 1st-low-low about once per trip.

so its turned in to a pissing match for who has more crawl ratio:lol:

When I was building my 40, the cost of adding a NP203 doubler was about $350. In the grand scheme of what I was building SBC350/700R4 with a 3 speed Tcase, it was worth it. With my 4.88s I'm at 148:1. I'm not trying to one up y'all but trying to bring attention to that if you going to do something major like this research and cost out what it would take then make the decision. I do not use stupid low much. But do use the splitter and 4H a lot.

not one uping at all this was the info i was looking for, how did you figure the 350? i would love to run a th350 to 203 with cruiser case in my 45 then i could take my current setup and install it in the wifes rig. i have the th350 and 203 already

Aren't you supposed to put the size of the tire into the crawl ratio equation to get true #'s?

I am at 60:1 but I think it doubles because of the Torque Converter in the Auto. I am running a 5.3l Vortec with the 4L60E into an Orion and have 4.88's in the axles. Will be moving to 5.26's next year when I push to 39.5's from my 37" Iroqs. So far I love the set up but when bumping it I usually have to use 2nd.

double your crawl ratio with an auto..

60:1 is a good ratio for an auto.

some dude local to me has some 43X:1.... Thats is just retarded, I dont see how he could use it, I think he does it just to do it. :meh:

but no just a discussion of where we are all at and how we like em.

x2. I ran a 4.0 in a toybox to my splitcase with a th350 and there was really no good reason to shift into stupid low other than to aggravate the people following me.

I got the 203 cheap then ordered the shafts and gaskets from AA. All you need is the shaft from the 203 to TC case and adapter plate. Advance Adapters has a kit.

wierd, i looked and couldnt find it, would be a cool way to get 4 to one though

Try giving them a call to see what's up. Maybe they are doing a redesign or something or even discontinued. I hope not.

yeah i found it runs just over 500 bones but is way cheaper than an orion and gives you the extra gear choice

Really? Glondark, BryanD, etc none of those guys has ever had an LC with an SM420? Maybe Rockape knows someone who knows someone. It's worth asking IMHO. The SM420 is a popular transmission for a lot of trucks.:meh:

You would probably be okay on the DL's as long as you keep it SUA. SOA and your probably looking at new DL's no matter what drive train you go with. You could fab the front DL out of two pieces of square tube at home. I know one guy who runs that way, it works well as long as you don't go fast in 4WD. :hillbilly:

i sold a early sm 420 on reno4x4 a couple of months ago cheap the person bought it as a spare trans like you need a spare sm420 behind a jeep 258 engine

With all this talk about crawl ratios, be careful with the skinny pedal when your in stupid low or you will make quick work at breaking something. I shelled a 3rd member before I learned.
