Picked up at swap meet today in box full of other stuff. Best I can come up with is some type of tubing goes in and it rolls a single indent into it. Maybe for crimping ferrules on rubber hose or similar? But there are other, simpler tools for that.

It looks like a valve packing crimper. The packing is a strip that seals two mating surfaces in the valve. It would appear to function by feeding the strip in from one end (transverse to the handle axle) and out the other end, between the dies as it goes. This is actually my art area, but I don't recognize it; it looks like a prewar era tool. I'll ask around the office tomorrow and see if anyone recognizes it.

The number is not a patent number (it can't be because the stamp indicates patent pending) and it's not a patent application number that's on file with the patent office. My guess is the number is a tool serial number.

It will knurl but top rollers take a strip out of middle so I think the knurled wheel is just a driver. Valve packer, hmmm? Maybe but doesn't appear to be able to feed from ends. There is clearly a moveable stop to set the depth of tube/rod/whatever stuck in from side. It does produce a nice deep indentation in soft tube.

Wouldn't surprise me if it is for crimping ferrules over the hose at a tube to hose or fitting to hose junction.
