What is this? Dimond in the very ruff?

Maybe this engine came out of another rig?
Does anyone have any input?

Vae thanks for the pictures. There was a mount that looked similar behind the seat when we pulled it out of the jungle. It's amazing the mods that are done here to get the rig down the road at least one mor time!
Yesterday I pulled a ute out of the dich that had 2x3s lashed to the frame. The driver said he broke the chassis last year trying to get up a steep muddy hill. On the forth try the tray started to flop. Both chassis rails were broke. He said he has to replace the 2x4s often but it works for now.

Is there any 1980 to 1984 hj47s owners out there that can shed some light on this.

Engine Mounts

Your third picture in post 140. The engine bracket looks bent to me. See the angle of the lower section then there is a bend in the outer tongue which means it is bent cause mine is straight. That said the mounts still would not be the correct angle and the other side (longer side) would not work either.
Your engine mounts (as my HJ60 ones are) appear to be offset front to back. Check your frame, are they inline? I swapped a 2H from a HJ60 into my 2F gas 40 and the 2F were inline but the 2H were offset. The 2H left was in the rear set of holes in the block and the right used the front set of holes. Also there is a cast spacer piece on the HJ60 that changes the angle from the bent steel frame bracket to the cast steel engine bracket. It goes frame->bent steel riveted frame bracket -> cast angle adapter -> rubber engine mount -> cast engine bracket -> engine block. Similar setup on both sides but the parts are all different!
What I did was make new frame mounts to sit it in place. The rubber mounts are against the cast engine brackets which replicated the OEM HJ60.
So I would say you have 2 problems. One is a bent left engine bracket and incompatible parts. But this is easily fixed with time and a welder.
I am also questioning your right engine bracket since the HJ60 one is long and the HJ47 one is shorter I believe. I can't tell which you have. Whatever you do don't bother trying to cut and weld one of the cast brackets unless you have some knowledgeable welders around. I tried and failed. Just get plate and make new parts that fit.
You've done so much, don't let this intimidate you.
Chris

Looking again at your pictures are you SURE the engine is not from a HJ60. The engine mounts look identical to what I personally pulled from a HJ60. The right hand mount was too wide to fit between the 40 frame rails so I made a new one out of plate. Do a few measurements. If you do make new engine brackets, use the transmissions and radiator fan as alignment guides. Iterate your way to final product cause the mounts squeeze down under load.

Here are some pictures of my HJ60 2H adapted into a 1978 FJ40.

Chris that was extremely helpful! In your first pic the cast bracket between the chassis mount and the rubber mount looks very familiar. I have 2 one that is broken and one not. With that piece the angle is correct but still to wide. So that makes sense that we have an engine from a hj60.

I'm going to go see a guy in the village of tindawa he's a mechanic and has 3 old 70 troopys and a hj47 that is buried under a pile of old wrecked cruisers. He must have 4 or 5 2hs sitting around. Surely he has the right engine brackets.

Thanks again Chris that was most valuable!!!

I love mud, you people are great!!!

If you find parts grind off/drill out the rivets and get the frame brackets as well. As you can see I had to make mine custom. It was a fair bit of time because of alignment (perfectionism that is me)

Well Jeffrey came through, we looked for a few min and found a mount that looks right. He is going to look some more and let me know what he finds. It's very likely that he has the right one, its just if he can find it. He also found a rubber mount but the bolts aren't quite right.

Here is the brackets I'm looking for. I finally got this page up to look at what exactly I'm needing. It took almost an hour to download.
Jeffrey found the left hand side, so now I need to find the right.

For some reason not to long I think because I use the iPhone app. When ever I'm looking up things from my web browser things take for ever. That's why it's so hard to do research. When I use the mud app it takes about 10 min per page. If I use the web site about 30 min. If I want to see the pictures longer.

Wow, didn't think of that aspect. We are so used to 1-2 seconds to load a page here in CONUS. anything longer and my blood pressure goes up. Guess I'll keep things in better perspective now when I think of you waiting 10 min to load on the iPhone and an hour to see a picture.

That's brutal - we are certainly spoiled....

This makes me remember...in the early 2000's I was setting up new IT systems in Moresby for Qantas...we needed to provision a comms line back to AU and that single order doubled the comms into the country!! The entire country's Internet was being run off the equivalent of one dial-up modem. Loved my time in PNG. Crazy place....
If you need specific parts Chad, get in touch and I'll try and help.

Cheers,
A

Technology, here in PNG we are just getting exposed, But it's growing fast. We got cell phones 2007, back in the bush (where we are) in 2008. The system is good but very overloaded. They are supposed to upgrade our cell tower in 2014 to 3G. That will be fantastic. Before the cell phones came we drove the 5 hours to town to call. It's funny to be back in some remote village with no power, running water, where everyone lives in a grass house and some old guy with a loincloth will pull out a cell phone and make a call.
Thanks for the offer I just might take you up on it.
