what is my 1963 original color

The pics where you have sanded through all the colors is consistant with my 1963 FJ45SWB. The red is "first" and is the primer, on these early ones it seems some of the parts only had primer (red) on the inside, bolted to body side. That looks similar to what I am looking for (Yellow-Beige) as my stock color as well. Painted it with a poor match (in Dupont Centari), that was too yellow in the mid 80's. Should have had it remixed.

I still have a Gas tank strap, with a kinda "new and shiny" virgin sample that was under the seat. Can't find pic now, but will take another; although online pics are not great... I really want a good match of this if it is the same. Prolly need to track down Treeroot and compare to his actual samples. I suspect in the long run however that you still need to sample and test one or more times. (from my experiece...)

it's been 20+ years and it's time to repaint.

the three hues on this rig are red, tan/yellow, and green. by the way i "scraped" the green paint and grey primer off on the hood and you can really see the rusty red color well. does anyone know if the very early cruisers received an industrial rust preventative primer?? During my scraping session i also noticed the "tan/yellow" color was much harder to get to "chip" off like the green paint and grey primer, could this be the original paint?

here are some pictures

side note... what is this sticker.

paint pics are of the side panel and hood after a bit of sanding..

awesome this is ooking promising. if anyone out there has seen this red primer under another color other than the beige/yellow please post some pics. the reason i ask is i shaved some of the top green paint/ grey primer off the hood and havent found any beige/yellow color on it yet however it did have the rusty red color.

This is from a hard top header bow of unknown year no repaint

I owned both pieces for over 20+ years both pieces had the red oxide primer under hinges, Just a light green paint (primer?) seen on the right side always confused me, and I don't have the pieces anymore .

63' Factory Colors

This is the fatory paint on my 63' FJ45 SWB, it appears to be Sulfer Yellow from Treeroots color chart, and similar to what you have previously posted where you sanded through the layers on the windsheild frame. I took that tonight in the shop (under HPS lights w/ flash) it looks lighter in the sun. I believe this may be your (our) factory color. You don't see many of them.

I don't think that appears to be sulfur yellow. imho sulfer is more of a green color. you piece above looks like some of my (and others I've seen) faded sundune white. It fades out to a pinkish/tan hue due to the red primer underneath . I'd have to look again on my cruiser but I think i have a red oxide primer and a blue/grey primer.

Maybe someone can take the color sample in post #50, and photoshop a picture for you.

I agree with the sulfur being more on the green side...oh...I'm also one of those with an original Sundune White '64.

I find Yosemite seems more of a paler yellow when compared to your 'sample'...but it's hard to tell from such old samples
