so does anyone know what paint colors were available pre1964??

I have some lit presently. It's tough to go through. what are you looking for a defined list? I don't think anyone has come up with one. I could help depending on what you are looking for.

the three hues on this rig are red, tan/yellow, and green. by the way i "scraped" the green paint and grey primer off on the hood and you can really see the rusty red color well. does anyone know if the very early cruisers received an industrial rust preventative primer?? During my scraping session i also noticed the "tan/yellow" color was much harder to get to "chip" off like the green paint and grey primer, could this be the original paint?

here are some pictures

side note... what is this sticker.

paint pics are of the side panel and hood after a bit of sanding..

i would say that too but i havent found any primer under the rusty red color. also wouldnt the "red" be more pink than brown if it were paint??

maybe, but who knows how being covered with 2 coats of paint would cause the color to shift..., and not sunfade...

could have been a red primer and a sulfer green paint...

I guess you just have more colors to choose from :)
what color you feeling the most?

I noticed in my tear down no paint under hinges and latches just red primer no color.
looks like the gray under the green is the repaint, and red primer under the yellow (Beige?) that looks like your original color to me..

good point :D
the family of beige colors stock are pretty nice :D

Or you can look at it as an opportunity to paint it any color without guilt haha :D

I kid ;)

thats beginning to sound more and more sensible. maybe some others can chime in and we can have more confirmation of the red "primer" under the hinges etc.

sanded this down last night and im thinking this could be paint. its the windshield securing bracket. underneath is the rusty red color. anyone have an idea what color this is on top???

the red color?

could be

seminole red or carnival red...

I dunno if there were any other reds early on...

i heard freeborn red was a later color so i assume that could be ruled out.

seminole red rocks btw, that is was my 40's original color ( after a lot of research and test sprays )

I post up a test spray image if you would like :D

Destin did you notice any of the "rusty red" colors any where on you rig?

just on a place where the PO had done some metal fixing, red oxide primer.
But it looks like the used a blue-ish grey primer on mine.

Granted they may have used dif primer colors for dif years etc.

My rig was sitting in full sunlight for years.
have you tried wiping the red color with a rag and water?
That can some times bring out the original color momentarily, ( or buff it a bit )
40 year old paint gets oxidized over time :D

the image you posted below looks alot like my 40 did:

no i was talking about the beige/yellow color. sorry

you could have your local paint shop get some small samples off the ppg numbers and do a few test sprays of colors and see what is the closest to your color.

The images we are scanning in and displaying on screen will invariably read differently depending on monitor calibration and the rgb settings of the original image.

Best to spray and compare to be honest.

For example initially I thought my original color was tropical coral red... until i sprayed a sample.
Turned out barbie pink haha!

Anyway, just trying to help :D

what are you too scared to rock the pink... he he;p

yeah i was thinking of trying the yosemite yellow first. and then go from there

Post up some photos when after you spray it :)

Cheers!
