yeah i need to find a home for just about everything under the hood. the whole drivetrain is orig 3 on the tree, the onlything missing on the motor is some fuel lines as the original fuel pump went out and someone tied in a electric fuel pump. orig pump is still there though.

Destin when you gonna have the whole thing painted?? looking forwad to seeing it

maybe im beating a dead horse but another guy did a resto on a 1962 and he had the same red color on his floorboards and tranny hump. is it possible this red color was a factory primer or something?? it really hard to tell with the entire truck being green even the under body. and his truck was the same color green as mine so seems like a pretty big coincidence. these are the other guys photos...

Thats what I was thinking, my whole cruiser has Red Oxide primer under the all the original Capri blue...:hhmm:

Reeeheheeaaly... thats very interesting. does anyone else have this reddish "primer" on their trucks. if this is a primer, i could narrow it down to just 1 color!!!!

me`thinking the red is primer too and it was green. someone would have had to have been extra careful to respray in the glove box etc.

my rig had a blue grey primer... ( 1964 fj40 )

Turned out the red was t332 Seminole Red.

you can see a test spray of the red, as well as the old paint and exposed primer:

If your are seeing red paint Where the windscreen is in the up position and the bottom of the windscreen connects to the top of the tub/ cowl, i would assume that that was the original color... I cannot think they leave that area just primed.
However I could be wrong. ;)

this is the photo I was referring to btw :)

here is a photo of mine as i tore it down...
Although mine is a few years newer than yours is, it was definitely painted and not left primer in 1964...

ok so here are some more pics of my cruiser. took the wire wheel to the paint in a couple places and it seems it was tan/yellow before it was green. also are these the original body mounts? the body rails underneath are green but have no primer. and another close up of the red color in between the side panels.

hmmm cannot find the photo...

I remember it was living in the past or cruiser nerd or Dean that posted it a while back.
If you update these photos in the 25 section post, i bet you might get some answers.
Those cats really helped me sort this stuff out :D

ok so i found a piece of weatherstripping that had the GREEN and the TAN on it. Now i can rule these two colors out as i highly doubt the manufacturer would paint over the weatherstripping right. so here is a pic of where i pulled the stripping and the paint on the stripping.

so based on this and the color under the side panels, looks like we have thesame/similar color destin...

Agree/Disagree??

I would think red :D

The Toyota def would not be painting stuff with the seals on.

Are there any other bits you could look behind on the main tub cowl to check for this same red? ( aside from the windscreen top of cowl bit )

A lot of times these bits are not removed when peeps repaint.
You have more photos of this rig online?

We love photos :D

x2 on the red as original color.

now go paint it whatever color YOU want.

My truck was white but originally red when I started taking it all apart. I found red under all of the white body panels that were original.

these colors are supposedly 1960 ish to 64 ( ignore the pencil writing, i think treeroot had determined form his master list of colors that the penciled stuff was incorrect, and these are early colors )

the ppg code was dead on for my color :D

Maybe treeroot can chime in?
( i think that was his handle )
