For those of you who've put sliders on yourself, any recommendations on drill bits? Carbide? Diamond tip? Unobtainium-infused?

Any steel drill bit will work eventually. Titanium Nitride works decent.

Centerpunch
Oil
pilot hole
oil
Step up

Edit: Some Harbor Fraught chineseium specials might even work. They'll be chowdered when you're done but what the hell. Just don't tweak one in the hole and snap a bit, that'll ruin your day.

G,

I use Bosch titanium bits and I step the holes. Start with a 1/8" and then step the size up little by little. It will go faster and not dull your bits.

Glad there are so many people smarter than me on this forum. I would not have thought of that... I probably would have kept dulling bit after big bit... :bang: :hillbilly:

^^^ This ^^^ I used cobalt bits but did the same with stepping the bits. Easy process.

Tapping the 2 threads on the side were the greatest challenge for me. It just takes patience. Trail Tailor sent me everything I needed.

I was gonna say...that's looking mighty high otherwise!
Yep, pretty high at the moment with nothing in it, should come down 8mm for every 100Kg (5/16 per 220lb)

I'm curious how picky the Australian authorities are about lift height limitations/laws, etc. We have some lift rules in the US, and some states are more cautious, but it seems you have far more restrictions than we do. Would they ticket you for your current lift? Do you have to get it "certified" or something? I've been reading about your laws, and I'm wondering how strictly they apply them. Hopefully they don't bother you...?

In the process of engineering to make it legal. General rule is total 3" lift in any combination of tyres and/or suspension is OK, any higher and it's an engineering certificate. Also rim offset is maximum 1" over standard each side, hence the +35 rims & tyre combo I have. +20 would have allowed me to run a true 35" tyre, but the rim offset makes it impossible to get approval.

Interesting. Thank you for the info. In the US, we are so jealous of your many VERSIONS of the Cruiser... with diesels, 70’s, turbos, etc... At least we can play around a bit with wheels, etc. Hopefully those laws improve for you. I did notice that your lift regulations eased this year... Hopefully that trend will continue...

I finally hard mounted the H3R extinguisher on the H3R universal mount. Kept everything loose until I could dial it in just perfect and am really happy with the way it came out. Please ignore how filthy the truck is - haven't had time to clean the interior from the last couple ski weekends.

Swapped everything to LEDs - interior and turn signals. (Haven't figured out the DRLs yet, but maybe one day - I'm envisioning two separate drivers and a circuit that detects 6V vs. 12V...)

First, had to find the flasher relay to swap it for one that supported LEDs - I wasn't too keen on cutting lines and installing resistors

It's this one, marked 21L (at least on my 2013 LHD 200 series):

Originally went with replacement LEDs from SBL, but they weren't exactly "super bright" (even though I did select the brightest one that fit):

Someone on here once said something to the effect of "just order from VLEDs" - I tried them, the rear was significantly brighter, but the fronts were about the same as SBL. Still happy with it, now all of the turn signal lights match when they flash, instead of the LEDs in the ARB bumper and the side view mirror turning on/off faster than the old incandescents.

Googling "200 series turn signal relay LED" pulls up some thread on here with pictures that are not very helpful - I'll post there as well, got a few more that help locate the relay.

Your radar cruise set to 62 gives me OCD :) Mine needs to be in multiples of 5.

Haha! I was on a road known for police with radar guns every couple miles, and the limit is 60mph so I figure 62mph is just about right otherwise I'm with you!

Ya, but highway patrol also thinks in 5's... ;)
62 in a 55 zone? -NP.
65 in a 55? -Ticket.

So I'm discovering last night and today how much WORK it is to clay-bar your paint...try to work out scratches...wax, etc.

Especially with mostly just the use of one arm... Fun fun fun!
