What have you done to your 100 Series this week? (32 Viewers)

I recently swapped out all plugs and coils (coils were originals) @ 230k miles. Couldn't tell any difference in how the truck runs but after a 700 mile trip this week, I'm consistently averaging 1-2 mpg more per tank of gas - averaged 14.1 mpg driving through the foothills of East Tennessee at 75+mph.

For the last few years I've been stuck at 12.7 mpg.

Only thing that's changed on the motor is the coils and plugs.

You're saving about $400 in gas a year if those mileage numbers hold @ 15,000 mi/year and $3.50/gallon, certainly helps put the price of the coils/plugs into perspective and makes a solid case for doing these as a PM item before complete failure. I have a light foot and get about 15-16 mpg at 7k ft in elevation and mostly highway driving (~55-70 mph), if I ever start to see that dip I will keep your experience in mind.

New plugs, coils, and gear oil in the front and rear differentials.

Almost 20 years since this was posted and still a good write up - Front Differential Fluid Change 100 Series.

Put in Lucas dino gear oil this time (vs. Mobil 1) on an old recommendation from @spressomon. Somehow it just seems to run smoother now (lol, but seriously!).

Anyway, had a Mobil 1 Lube Express do the rear last time and they didn't use a crush washer.

So cleaned that up and torqued everything to spec.

Next up: Need to figure out how to get to the transfer case without taking off Slee's skids. Hole saw? Also new wheels (Tundra 18"s) and tires. Just not sure what to go with - KO3s, ATW4, or something else.

Officially became a hundy owner Tuesday. Picked up the LX in Denver and within 15 hours had driven it 1000 miles straight to a buddies place in SoCal.

Fantastic highway cruiser, and for all the gloom and doom everyone here has on the fuel economy, I averaged 17.6 at an average speed of 76. Of course when I get back home the stock size highway tires will be the first to go...

Only thing I noticed looking it over that I didn't like were some tell-tale red crusties on one of the heater T's. Thankfully I came prepared with new aluminum ones. (RockAuto has the Autotecnica ones for $10 each btw) Good thing I did because one of the factory ones wasn't long for this world. Huge stack of maintenance history but nothing on the T's so I'm sure they were original.

Girlfriend is flying in Sunday and we'll start a nice road trip back to the East Coast. Nothing exciting planned for this once I get home, a good baseline, toss the running boards, 275/70/18's, get the AHC pressures dialed in (although it rides extremely nice as is) and maybe a tiny sensor lift. It rides and drives too nice to want to do anything more.

Vapor Blue Metalic too 👌

Installed a set of Dobs drawers. The first step to success is to throw out the directions they give you right away. Worthless. I have dual drawers and the side wings and everything comes mostly assembled, with the exception of the wing kit. I needed to pretty much disassemble the drawers and start from the beginning. Because it's a universal kit, getting the proper fitment dialed took me some time, but I'm happy with the finished results.

The rest of the weekend has been replacing engine oil and filter, gear oil in both diffs and t-case. I'd like to make some time to clean the MAF sensor and throttle body, as well as do the VSC delete. Way too many curvy off camber roads around where I live and with the IMS kit and 33" rubber, it acts up way too much for my liking.

Out with the SPC UCA and in with Dobinsons. Really disappointed in this set of SPC’s, worn out in 6k miles and one wheeling trip. Managed to trace my clunking noise down to the UCA. Not sure how or why, but both sides were binding causing a clunking noise when the suspension cycled. It progressively got worse to the point it was unbearable. I replaced them with the Dobinsons and the noise is completely gone. Super happy this ordeal is done with.

Side note: The 100 is back from paint and fully reassembled. Will have post pictures of the end result in a few days.

At "75+mph" - there is your fuel mileage issue. Dial it back to 65 MPH, crank up the tunes and enjoy the ride mate you should be seeing closer to 15 mpg I'd guess. On long west coast USA road trips in my 1999 UZJ100 I get ~16 MPG while cruising  at 65 mph.

Honestly, I don't care about gas milage - I was just surprised by the difference.

Lots of weird odds and ends... My steering wheel was making a weird dragging noise, so I thought I had a loose connection. I pulled it off and realized there was a little spring-loaded copper contact that mates up with a copper ring on the steering column. Greased it and back to normal. Also, tried to organize some wiring that was throwing off the alignment of my glove box. I'm pretty sure I have my original wiring plus wiring for my engine swap competing for the same space. I can't say I improved it, but I did learn a little more about where my electronics are.

Installed 2inch Ironman4x4 lift this weekend, front shocks were a walk in the park, rear shocks however, had me making up swear words that I didn't know exist lol.
After the install which took about 7 hours, I headed over the pep boys to have my old 275/70R16 Yokohama Geolander A/Ts taken off and my new 285/75R16 Yokohama M/Ts installed. First pic is me regretting my decision to not cough up the money for the local shop to do it for me, other two pics are before and after the tire swap.

Hello 10MPG, goodbye 13MPG

I just installed mine as well and agree that better instructions are needed. I'll most likely add a write-up on my website to help others in the future.

Man the VSC delete topped my list this past week driving through backroads of WV through many mountains. Nonstop beeping at me and tried to brake for me a few different times. No front sway bar and the IMS up from

It freaked out on me a couple days ago on a paved, curvy downhill going roughly 40mph pulling a trailer. My first thought was "that's getting deleted".

I went to do some minor maintenance on the 8Ball but the engine compartment was so filthy that it totally derailed my plans. OCD kicked in and I ended up hand-washing the entire engine compartment (no hose, no foam, only Simple Green, rags and elbow grease)! Ahhh....much better!

How long did that take you?

About to dive into wiring up a house battery and switch panel, planning to take the opportunity to clean my bay similarly.
