Yesterday was my appointment day at the glass shop I was recommended to replace my cracked windshield. They went to bat with my insurance company and got approval for OEM glass and trim. They brought me in the back, we talked everything over before they started work and have done many of these and are familiar with all the usual issues.
They said this level of rust is typical of what they see on a 100 and in all the usual suspect areas. And, compared to some of the carnage I've seen on here, not bad at all. It was all ground back to bare metal, prepped, treated, and primed before the new glass and trim went in. Everything went back in proper and by the book, the new Toyota glass is amazing compared to the POS that was in there before. When I picked it up, the techs waved me into the service bay and BS'd with me for about half an hour, we talked all about these trucks, their quirks, the ins and outs of auto glass in general. They also showed me all the Sika products they use to bond everything in and what they've learned at auto glass conventions over the years. All pretty cool stuff and I'm glad to have another project crossed off and know that I'm good to go for years now.
