What have you done to your 100 Series this week? (45 Viewers)

Spent a couple hours leveling out the side rails after my jack job on the side rails. Combination of rasp, flapper disc and a lot of sweat equity to get it to this point. The thing that sucks using a customers angle grinder is you get maybe 5-7 minutes worth of use before the battery dies.

Also found a drill jig for the 80/20 ten series so it’ll make pre drilling the cross bars Whole a lot easier

Long time lurker here. Over the last three days I knocked out the following front refresh:

- Replaced all front differential bushings
- Replaced front lower control arms including #2 bushing in the frame
- Replaced CV axles
- Replaced CV axle seals at differential

Still need to knock out the steering rack bushings but that will have to wait.

LCA #2 had significant rust / corrosion. This truck has 157k and has been in SOCAL it’s entire life.
I would love to do the LCA bushings but that job looks challenging, I have a socal LX as well so I'm not sure how difficult it would be

It's really not bad. You just want to make sure the press you rent has the right fitting.

I actually bought a 21 press kit after being thoroughly disappointed with the rental kit I got from AutoZone.

That's a good move. I wasted a lot of my day driving around to local auto shops looking at what kits they have and they were the very basic 7 piece ones. I ended up having to use some steel pipe fittings which had the perfect diameter.

You can press out the bushings with your generic kit, but pressing back in is another story.

You see that's what sketches me out, getting it out is one thing then you have to press it back in. I watched a pretty thorough walk through by an older gent and he made his own press to get out in and it was difficult for him

I think you're overthinking it. Once you get the BJ going in straight, you could practically send it home with a sledgehammer, worst case scenario. Once you purchase your BJ, just make sure your kit has a fitting that fits over the head of the BJ and you're good to go.

Oh I want referring to the BJ, I was talking about the LCA bushings#2

Ah, gotcha gotcha. I haven't done those but now that I know about.. dang it. I'm chasing a popping noise and I really don't want to do this LOL.

I did allot of research prior to diving in. Not something I was thrilled to do, however CV were throwing grease, ball joints needing replaced, diff bushings shot.

Decided to just replace the lower arm and diff bushing assemblies instead of pressing new bushings which saved a ton of time (not $).

Highly recommend purchasing a press kit as it would have been a nightmare having to search parts stores for rentals mid job.

# 2 bushing presses back in on both sides with little effort after cleaning the opening with 2” wire wheel attached to drill.

Don’t forget to mark your ride height before disassembly.

Overall, truck rides fantastic after the refresh.

Wanna help me do it? 😁

I took it for a ride. This was just a little morning ride with a buddy as a shakedown/ confidence builder after a LOT of deferred maintenance and old-car-refresh kind of stuff. Nothing broke, and nobody got stuck. :)

Cameras and drones and stuff are fun to play with, too- he got a good deal on a used DJI Air and we put it to use. Between that, a little iphone video, and some gopro footage and dumping it all into the gopro app... pretty cool output.
