A friend of mine gifted me a Ramsey 8.5e winch. It's going to need some tlc, but hope to have it ready to go by the time my ARB arrives. Size wise, it's a the very bottom of acceptable for a 100, but I think it will do for my purposes.

Getting the 100 closer to back in the road. Installed rebuilt/upgraded alternator, replaced the radiator/hoses, a hand full of vacuum lines, replaced the Ts, going to get on the dual battery system this week, then on to new brakes all the way around. Hopefully in a week or two removing door panels to address the sticky sandy kinda insanity that is going on with the arm rests. Soon dealing with the factory roof rack and some more stuff that needs addressing.

Ramsey makes a quality winch, should be a great winch to have once done. I run a warn M8000, which I've heard people say is small. At the end of the day it's not the straight pull power of a winch but the mechanical advantage of your rigging, how much time you have, and the safety factors you want. I think it is a great fit and it has worked very well for quite awhile now. I am often on trail by myself and the smaller winch in my opinion gives me more options and keeps me safer.

I have a 50' winch line extension and a heavy snatch block if I need a truly long pull. I prefer knowing my winch is going to bog before I reach working loads on my other recovery gear. I also want the biggest duty cycle I can get and a fast rate of retrieval for my budget. I can and do just run double line if additional pulling power is needed, which I think is a good idea anyways for safety factor. Snatch blocks and extensions provide you many more options for recoveries, while also forcing you to think about if your tow points can handle 12k of pulling force. I typically run a snatch block just to know I'm distributing load over more than one recovery point while also knowing that even doubling my pull my winch will stop pulling before I reach the working load of my winch line.

Rabbit and the turtle. A high quality 8k winch with a great duty cycle and fast rate of retrieval can run a double hauled line and retrieve much more than a similarly priced 12k winch with a weak duty cycle and crawling speed on a straight pull. Plus, if you're running at the top end of the pulling power of your winch, you've got to do so on a low drum anyways, so I've got to run all my line out anyways.

Rattle canned my Slee sliders, this was a couple years overdue.

Also pulled the trigger on some 4.88 gears. A couple weeks from now I'll be poor, but the hundy will get some grunt back!

Random pic form the big snow storm out here in CO a while back ...

New front rotors and pads for the War Wagon. DBA T3 rotors and EBC Green Stuff pads. Had a very difficult time deciding between this setup and Toyota OEM. Hope it works out!

Was on the same predicament before, except I ended up with the ebc dimpled and slotted rotors. A heads up though, the brake dust on the greens is not so good, but well compensated by its braking performance.

This week I did the Owl Expeditions Media Mount install and the “while you’re in there” install of the Grom BT3. The Grom is the best $100 I’ve spent so far.

Different, but seem to work the same. And knocked the fuel pressure back into correct range. 55lbs seemed a bit high. Now back to 44lbs.

Sooo, because I like you folks I’ll pass along a little mud hole I went down this evening. After throwing these new shoes on her she didn’t want to dance. She starts making lovely clicking sounds from the front passenger axle....not thrilled. Started searching mud and came across some sad stories of woe, cv axles, drive flanges, bearings oh my. I took another look, inspecting brake dust shield...and then noticed the balancing weights. The way they’re place it’s bumping into something in the caliper regions. First pics show passengers side wheel with grooves, others are drivers side that are untouched/not clicking. Who knows, maybe this is driving one of you nuckingfuts as I type this.

After my return trip the wheels were rebalanced by the manager with clip weights and an apology. No more clicking!

Got her back from.the Toyota place where they discovered a leaky long radiator and fixed a worn tensioner bearing while putting on a new set of tires.

The ride quality improvement over my old Michelins is surprising. After one 8 mile drive, I love these things.

Will be replacing the radiator myself this weekend. The sliders and a new bumper will have to wait I guess.
