Wow the 80 can swallow tires. That stance is much better.

Now your shocks are too short. :D
I know myself better than that Nay! I planned ahead and bought shocks that were long enough the first go round!;p

Thanks for all the comp's! Can't wait to see how she does tomorrow!!!:steer::bounce:

So tan-jeep, when are you going to man up and change your sig line?...sorry dude had to say it!...I almost :crybaby: when I see that and I know it's gone AND you moved away before we got to do any HC wheeling!

Oh well I'm sure our trails will cross again someday...hope you get a new rig soon!

Had a great time in Death Valley this week end but I forgot my camera!!!:doh::doh:

I will post up pics as soon as I get them from the other club members that were with us!

So your 80 is the orange Metal Tech, right?

Nope, that's Mark's. He is one of the owners of MetalTech. I just have done a lot of wrenching on that rig!

Mine makes Mark's look straight!

I was a good run in Death Valley, I was going to hold these for ransom... but here you go, I'll get you a disk when you stop by with a beer. Will have more when I get the shots out of the other camera, got shots of you and Amy.
The last one is the Road Warrior doing 75 mph on the way home from Death Valley.

Oouuucchhh!!!
Yeah body armor makes a BIG difference! Although I don't think my cage will save my doors! At least that's the only area I should really have to watch out for!

I wheeled mine for over a year with no protection whatsoever... And it shows. It really doesn't look that bad in the pics, but the cowl and the hatch are the only two body parts that are straight on my 80... And I think she's beautiful!

BTW:  again on the great build! You bit off a lot from the get go in somewhat uncharted territory and it came out better than most of us suspected.

I agree...even a rolled 80 is still a beauty!

Hey thanks Chad!

I was a little worried myself at first too but I'm very happy with it!!!

I've been amazed at how many people I don't even know come up and say something like "hey I've seen your build thread on Mud...very COOL...ect!!" It just happened again this week end when I was gas'n up in Beatty, NV! ih8mud.com rocks!!!:grinpimp:

awesome to finally take a look at your build, give you a whole new perspective on somebodys rig. see you at the next meeting!

Soon!!

Actually I can't figure out how to change my sig line!!!:bang: but I am looking at a stock 91 on sat in Coeur D'Alene.

You do know that the 91 is much less of a truck than a 93-97 w/lockers, right? To me it just doesn't make any sense to settle when you can get one with lockers, Full Floating rear, 4wheel disc, bigger better 4.5ltr motor...ect, for about the same $$. IMHO:meh:

I really can't believe I'm catching flack about the exo! I have managed a 4x4 custom fab shop and I have seen guys roll with exo's and with out! The ones with exo's ALWAYS come out better!!! I guess here on Mud it's just so "out side the box" that we don't want to consider that it could be a REALLY good thing but if you go on more hard core sites like Pirate 4x4, it's quite comon and desirable! And I know the other part is our Land Cruiser's are so beautiful that we don't want to conceal a single curve:princess:! And your right PKP80 body panels are replaceable but in my experiance (and I have had lot's of body damage over the years) after a wreck the body panels don't ever line up right again! Not to mention if you do a real number on one like this guy did you have to hack the whole top off and start over:eek:!

:eek::eek::eek:

You can't tell me that a good exo cage wouldn't have saved this 80 from the cutting torch!;p:D

It is surprising you have caught as much flack as you have. I just read through this entire thread. I have been a member on pirate longer than I've been on mud and you would have been saluted over there, but not here. It's kind of bizarre I know. However, you are not alone....I know of 3 other full exo's on 80's. Nice build and keep up the good work.

I understand where you are coming from, but as for me I really don't like exos. I don't like where it puts the weight on the vehicle and the lack of triagulation, especially on a wagon. On top of that, you're from Oregon, it's hard enought to fit our 80s through the trees up at TSF!

That being said, I think this exo is well thought out and it looks killer! I would just rather have an interior cage and the battle scars.:steer:

I thought you lived in Vegas. My wife is from CDA and I worked for a year in Spokane. She wants to live there when we are done with school, but it's a little too cold for my liking. We'll have to go wheeling next time I'm up there.

Are you planning on doing a motor/axle swap on the 91?

Sorry for the hijack.

There are many of us who would not do an exo for the looks, weight, etc.
But Roy explains it well:
He can do some stuff fearlessly that even some pretty hard core rock hounds would not with an 80 for fear of shattering windows, crushing pillars, etc. He can get in tighter places and use the cage as a pivot point or just piece of mind. After running with his truck at Death Valley (where we admittedly did nothing more dangerous than a Baja 1000 try-out, speeding down that crap road to racetrack road at a good clip) I've seen the scars he already has on the cage. Other rigs would have had a write-up on the damage thread. Roys just tying to figure out what color to paint next...

dude, you are the only one that understands that.

Thanks Bookilla....you should come down for "Hump'n'Bump" this year!

Sorry but I don't understand this line of thinking?... Wouldn't it be better to have a cage that the trees and rocks can slide on rather than your body??? The tighter the terrain the more I would want an exo!! With out it your rig comes out the other side look'n like hammered goose crap!

Thanks and to each his own I guess!:meh:

:hmm:Thinking of painting my 80 Orange and the cage black:hmm:
