What do you do to stop door dings?

Hi,

6 weeks into my first cruiser, i noticed my first door ding on a pretty mint body. There is no rubber stripping on the side that most cars have to prevent the common door ding from your neighbor in the parking lot.

is there a rubber strip i can buy and mount, if so how?

what have you all done to protect you baby????

only way ive found to do it is be careful where you park. like park way out on the north 40 of a parking lot. but of course you gotta know some low life in a pwt beat up caddy will park 2 inches from you anyhow!

but its a land cruiser! that implies two things (to me anyway): 1) the scratches from the branches you rub against off road (not to mention the boulders you scrape) will hide any door dings and 2) YOURE supposed to be doing the intimidating!

get some slightly bigger tires and mount some sliders. the doors will most likely hit the sliders before the side of the vehicle. pisses people off too as it dents their car much more because it's not flexible sheet metal...

I park diagonal across 2 spaces (especially when parking spaces are hard to find), then I check my look in the mirror, take a shot of Binacca, lick my finger and smooth my eyebrows, exit the Cruiser, watch my spinners as they wind down, pull my hanky out and polish a handprint off the hood, and then head into the mall. Just before I go through the door, I glance back and admire my ride and make a mental note to leave the wheels turned just a tad more when parking from now on to give it that extra cool look.

Sliders with an outboard hoop.

Several weeks ago, I had just pulled into a parking space when another car then pulls in to the next space to me on the pasenger side. I hadn't even gotten the key out of the ignition when I hear a significant thud. I look over to see a lady jump out of her car, slam her door shut and hurry away. I had to check it out. The edge of her door had made firm contact with my slider. Therw was a noticeable dent in her door - not a scatch on the slider. The rest of her car was nearly new and free of dents so I guessed it wasn't a habit. Either she thought nothing of the thud, or was too embarassed to slow down and have a look. Oh well, her loss.

I just don't care, it's an inevitable part of life. It does help that my Cruiser is relatively tall and a lot of people are intimidated by the sliders.

Lift, big tires, sliders with hoops, and durabak, and I think you are covered unless a semi parks next to you

It adds character. It's nice to have a cruiser witha mint body, but it's a fleeting thing. Actually, it's funny, if a truck is in really good shape and then gets a ding or a scratch that damage stands out. However, once the paint starts to fade a bit and the little dings and dents accumulate it starts to look rugged and bad ass. It's kind of like when you grow your hair out and there's that awkward stage in between being clean cut and Jim Morrison.
