WHAT DO YA THINK Weber, Holley or stock Carb?

I'm putting together a stock six and was wondering what you guys think which carb works best for a street driver (1-3 days) with weekend warrior capabilities???

Does anyone now of a reputable carb re-builder in SOCAL?

Thank you!

I have a Holley Truck Avenger and the smallest is designed for a six. They are a bit of a pain to tune but once I got it right it has been very solid. I run the rubicon several times a year and it has worked well off road. I do know most people don't like Holley's as I am sure you will hear.

I have stock on my 72 and am happy. Years ago I put a Holley on a 71 and did notice an improvement in power. I never had issues offroad, but stock is supposed to be better

What year of engine & carb are you using?

its a 1978 six cyl. with headers
It came with a Holley 2300 when I got it.

Before I spend my hard earned cash, I was wondering what you guys think works best for the buck!!

Go stock. You wont regret it. I love my stock carb on a '70 F155. Works great for the road and it is the best off road carb you can buy for the stock motor.

Talk to the folks at Spector Off Road.

I got a '74 Federal spec ( I think) stock Aisin. It went to see Jim C. when I rebuilt the engine. I prefer the stock carb. It's just what I know. Prefer the mechanical secondary to a vacuum secondary.
A reputable carb rebuilder in SoCal?...hmmmm, let me think....I wonder who...Can anybody think of a carb rebuilder in SoCal? I hate to keep dropping Mark A.'s name...but he'd be my first choice.

SOCAL?
I'm in the north bay, and smogging an FJ40 with a webber carb doesn't happen, It's illegal. Personally, If you're keeping the original engine, keep it stock. At least a Holley, or an Edelbrock will pass smog, and add some power, but the result is negligible.

If you're sporting a pre-1978, then disregard the smog stuff.

???...
A Holley or edelbrock will pass smog? pre-'78 can disregard smog stuff?
Dude, put the pipe down...

I wanted to say that, but you type faster 'n me...

Oh, my...Mr. C.
Little ol' Pighead taking the words out of Jim C.'s mouth?
May I quote you on that please?
I'm not worthy...

If I like to rebuild stuff from time to time, I might go factory carb. If I plan on highway driving only, I might go 38mm Weber. But what I would really prefer is a fully baffled Holley with chimney!

Motorcraft 2 barrel. It'll bolt right to your Holley adapter and it works great. Plus they're a dime a dozen.
If you had a stock carb, I'd say stick with it. But since you're already converted, the Motorcraft is a great option.

x10 on the Motorcraft.....Easy to tune and rebuild carb I have ever used...and they are cheap!
my story...https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/234249-my-unscientific-quest-20-mpg-almost.html
Mine is on a 305 CUbic inch chevy... tons of Jeep 6cyl 4.2 guys use the Motorcraft with few complaints.
Changing jets is a 5 minute operation and a manual choke is nice.

I vote for stock, get in touch with JimC and have him cobble you one together. You can find ones available online as well. I rebuilt mine (took two tries) and have been pretty happy with it. Most folks here run stock carb. My truck is mostly a 78'. I built mine from several different carbs in order to completely de-smog her. My gas mileage might not be the best as the jetting is probably off. I'm going to to send her off to Jim C when funds are available later this year.

My weber has been solid but would have gone back stock if I had to do it again. I do still have the carb and could go back that route.

Later,
