This evening after work I finished stripping the Bib, polishing, and reinstalled the grill and lights.

After dinner the kids were playing outside so I took advantage of being in the garage watching them play.

I ended up getting everything buttoned up minus the driver fender as I still need to build and install the power steering pressure line. My fittings came in today and I have the hose mocked up, just need to get hydraulic hose and crimp it.

Then fill the system, re route my alternator charge wire, install the fender and go back to driving it.

A couple hours left and it’s on the road again. 🤞

Mmmm… Big Wave

Sometimes I think I have a problem. Then I log in here and feel more normal.

Last night I finally took the time to reset my timing after removing the distributor to replace the side cover gasket. While doing so I found that the vacuum advance line didn’t survive the small blaze I had during my cleanup incident.

Timing was at 5* I bumped it back up to a base of 14* and it’s happy again.

Last night I installed my rear hatch outside handle as mine broke during the 70 mph roof removal adventure after I purchased the 40.

46 degrees here this am. Pulled the choke, quick little throttle tap with my hand and hit the key and it fired up and idled on its own for about 10 minutes before I left the house. I’ll call that a win. It was even semi toasty inside as I left the heater running as it warmed up.

I’m waiting on more cruiser fun money to show up so I can purchase some hardtop parts. However for now this will do. Im not in Montana, not driving it high speeds long distances, and just want to simply enjoy it as long as I possibly can.

Still to do before next weeks trip:
-winch plate and winch
- check belts and bolts associated with belts
- wire dual compressor
- order and install defrost ducts
- fuel tank sending unit bolt
- top off fluids
- drive as much as possible
- pack

I’m not sure if I have ever posted this, however I ran across the picture a while back and it reminded me.

This was the day I decided to buy a 40. We were in Yellowstone at ole faithful cooking bison burgers. I was parked on the back row with my trailer and cooking on the back. This family Rolled in and parked, waved hello and on they went. I walked around it, took a picture and stared at it until we left. From then I knew I wanted a 40.

If you are on here thank you for the inspiration. My bank account might not think the same but money isn’t everything.

I still remember the first one I ever saw up close.

My first one I saw was the one I bought. THAT WAS 50 YEARS AGO TODAY. I begged borrowed and hocked whatever I had to get the down payment and then at $52.00 a month….it was mine. Total cost was under $4400 new with Warn Hubs option $120. Extra

That's awesome. Wish I had a photo of the one that got me started. Old beater 40 at a hunting camp in Palo Pinto County, Texas in 2000, 2001-ish.

It’s funny as this wasn’t the first one I had seen. Actually I had torn two of them down at this point for Jason.

I guess this was just the one that said, yup I need one.

Posted this elsewhere before, but the first one I saw was mine after I traded a Subaru 1600 GL to a buddy for it. This was circa ‘90/91?

@Chungas Revenge

Can you help me with this fitment issue?

What is the proper depth of a pour before you take the keys out of the equation?

It always seems after approximately 54mm with a 1:10 ratio of ice that my key has trouble inserting into the ignition. Therefore I hang the keys up before I get started.

Cheers fellas

Three fingers.

Maybe more depending on how the fishing goes and how far up a forest service road I made it.
