What did you do with your Tundra or Sequoia this weekend? (8 Viewers)

Agreed. The ride is amazing without it. The Tundra drives like a dream, but thinking about towing my travel trailer I might just throw it back on for safety.
About half of my annual miles are towing either a travel trailer or my side by side. I don't think I'm ready to try to swerve to avoid a moose without a front sway bar towing. But I'd love to have a quick disconnect mechanism for the days when I'm on the offroad trails where the sway bar disconnect does so much good to improve the ride quality. Yesterday was one of those days where I spend a few hours exploring some pretty chewed up fire roads. If I could buy a SDM kit for $800 - It would be worth it for me to add. Probably more useful for me in real world than $800 more expensive coilovers.

It's not super hard to put on and off - but you've got to pull the skid plates and that can be a pain. I suppose I could just figure out a quick end link disconnect of some sort. But I'd rather have an electric disconnect.

My thought on a DIY version would be to pic up a junk yard active hydraulic unit from BMW or Land Rover or similar - they're all basically the same thing, a hydraulic rotating mechanism with two pressure ports for each direction. I'd just verify that it's a 1:1 fluid volume ratio for either direction and then make up some hoses and an electric solenoid valve to either open fluid flow for "disconnected" and default to closed for "connected". I think it could be done for less than $500 in total parts. I just don't have any access to machine shop, welding, etc right now, so I can only daydream. Only downside to this way of doing it is that it wouldn't naturally self return to preset position. It would just lock in whatever position you close the valve in. That might be a problem.

The oem radio in my 07 tundra has been steadily getting worse over the years. A unknown cd stuck in there since I brought the truck. The volume knob would sometimes work, sometimes only turn the volume up-but mostly useless.'

I hit up Crutchfield and got an Alpine ilx-670. Paid the extra $27 for them to pre wire the harness. And, honestly it went in so easy. I was a little nervous at first. Having never done anything with car audio before-but plenty of electrical and mechanic experience. The hardest part was running the mic wire from the top of the windshield down and under the dash. Which also wasn't really that hard. While I was at it, installed the Masters tailgate handle backup camera and a usb plug.

Only been about a week and have been enjoying the receiver. Easy to use, connects to my phone for pandora very easily. And the backup camera is a pretty nice addition.

The receiver I installed:

The backup camera I used:

The usb plug:

I did the exact same thing except with Sony. World of difference having CarPlay and a good backup camera to hook-up to trailers. Nice work!

Finally got some tires ordered. Costco first said no, but another costco took my order for some new tires. Decided to go for 295/70/18 Michelin Defender ms2. I do mostly highway miles and want the lower road noise of a highway tread. And they're excellent in snow - oddly they don't have a 3pmsf rating, but in the instrument testing they out perform most or all of the 3pms rated all seasons. I waffled back and forth between the 295s and 285/75/18s in a cooper at3. But in Alaska I had to order the coopers and get them shipped to a freight forwarder and then find a local installer and Costco will mount these if I bring in loose wheels to mount on. I like the narrower 285s, but it just added a lot of extra logistics to deal with and I've been mostly happy with the Michelin Defenders I have now in stock size. They've been excellent all around on wet pavement, snow, and ice. Not so good in mud - haha.

Planning to run them as-is with basically no lift. I have Fox 2.0 suspension with stock coils front set at the lowest setting (about 3/4" higher than stock) and Fox rear shocks with stock leaf springs. Everything I can find says they'll fit with no issues on a stock height truck other than trimming the skid plate a little bit. The first open appointment I could get for mounting is November 23. Booked 45 days out!

I noticed Costco started carrying the KO3's in 295/70r18 and we were overdue so I thought what the heck, I wanted to make the jump from 275/70r18.

Ordered a set and after about a week and a half, I went back in to get an update and noticed the set sitting there. I hadn't received a call yet but I thought maybe they just came in. I booked the appointment and took the wheels off myself as I honestly don't trust them with the lugs as I'm sure they just blast them with the impact and damage the finish, so I like to leave them just to mount and balance.

Well, it turns out they scratched each wheel with either the balancing or tire changer machine. Each wheel and in the same spot. Went back to show the damage the next day and was told it would probably buff out...

They also mounted the tires with the barcodes still on so they are wedged in between the wheel and tire, which is super lazy if you ask me. They aren't even busy with winter tire changes yet...

I have more pictures but it's depressing posting them.

I told the attendant that the scratches were too deep to buff out and he suggested I go to a paint shop for a quote to repair. He took some pictures and I left. I emailed them about a claims form and to articulate the issue as I'm not sure I should be required to go to a shop for a repair quote but if that's the process, fine.

Costco has been the only company to mount and balance tires on these wheels and this was the 2nd set... Pretty disappointed as these wheels were way over budget for us but the offset, weight and look were exactly what I wanted.

😑

Pretty stoked with how they look coming from 275/70r18. I was worried they would rub or look silly without a lift but I think +45 is the sweet spot. In between +40 and +45. I did pre-remove the lil' front bumper wind deflector but I'm not even sure they would have made contact.

It feels to me like the front needs to come up just a bit, I was thinking a couple of the 1/4" Dobinsons shims for 1/2" up front and leave the rear as is. I would love a complete set of 2.5" IMS but not thinking I can justify the cost with shipping to Canada. Even without the 1/2" up front, I'm super happy with how it looks and the added clearance.

Next, I really want to remove the resonator for even more clearance in the rear but I'm not sure how it would sound without it. I can't find any footage on the internet either.

What wheels do you have? What would be replacement cost? That's where I would start, especially with Costco. Don't wait around
at the store level. Find an email for upper management and go there. Nothing less than new wheels here. Repair, my ass.
Good luck, keep us posted.

From what I've read on another forum, don't remove that resonator..
