What did you do with your truck this week?

I want to do the conversion on my pickup. Where did you get the kit and bulbs at?

Got my OEM hand throttle installed after work this evening. 10 minute job with 3 minutes of that drinking beer. Figured it will come in handy when using my air compressor and soon to be winch.

@BMThiker do your rear shocks have remote reservoirs? Metaltech is having a pretty good thanksgiving sale on ICON products and I'm thinking about biting the bullet on a set of fronts. But the only rears they show for a 3rd gen have resi's and I am thinking of calling MT to see if they can come up with a non-reservoir rear shock.

Thanks

Mine do not have reservoirs. This is what I have...says it fits 2003 and up on 4R, but that doesn't help you. My guess is that the travel isn't the issue, but maybe the mount style is different (post vs eyelet).

Thanks, the 3rd gen is very similar. It is a post top/eye lower. That is the shock I was looking at, well not the long travel just the standard travel. Not sure about length or size of mounts. I am hoping that with a set of 906 OME rear coils (since ICON doesn't offer rear coils for the 3rd gen) then the length will work out right. I am trying to find some measurements on the collapsed and extended lengths on various shocks to compare. Thanks again.

I wonder if MT's branded coils would work. They're on my wishlist.

So I'm not saying that I am the best in the world at straightening and rewiring twisted/folded license plate brackets... But... I think I could hold my own at the next competition. It's nice to be able to drive at night!

Oou, shiny. From looking at the OME measurements both the 3rd and 4th gen rigs use an 8" travel shock and the dimensions are really close for their lift shocks, like within a half inch or so. So I am going to call ICON tomorrow and see what they think about using the 2.0 standard travel shock from the 4th gen 4runner/FJ on a 3rd gen 4runner. If their shocks measure similar to the OME units then it should work.... we shall see.

Thanks again.

Rick, it's been a while since I looked, but don't you have to add their bump stops and rear LCAs with those springs? I thought I remembered it being pretty involved parts wise, to get the full benefit.

Those are the rears. Just need to make sure you have the brake lines and such to accomodate the travel. The cool thing is they are progressive rate so they ride nice on the road!

@Teddy you don't have to do it all at once, which is the nice thing about that "kit". My OME springs are 7 years old and at $220/pair for the MT ones, it's not an exorbitant expense for good springs and they are the last piece of the kit, for me. I already have the long travel LCAs and UCAs, but like I said you don't need to have them to run the springs. Even the extended bump stops are kind of optional if you don't baja your rig.

Called ICON this morning, looks like I'm in luck as they actually are about to release exactly what I'm looking for. The guy gave me a KIT part number to give to MT. Now I am going to call them to see if they will do their Cyber Monday special on the new kit. Fingers crossed.

Swapped my PS CV due to torn boots brought on by a broken diff support. I think I solved the mystery of the PS tie rod breaking twice. The CV was overly stretched in various ways due to the diff floating too much (and added a nice vibration). If you have an FJ, 4R, or GX I recommend taking a peak and looking at your front diff supports. If they crack you will have all sorts of mystery issues. I must have had this the entire time I owned it, because it drives like a completely different truck!

Well I didn't do anything to my 80, except drive it about 3 miles. Which if you think about it is pretty impressed since it's the 1st time behind the wheel in about 2 months!!

early new years resolution= fix what needs fixed, new tires and mske at least 1 meet on 2015.

Hey Kevin if you send either me or Marshall a message on some Saturdays your off thru the year we can adjust a few meetings so you can make it. I know your schedule can't be easy to plan stuff with. Hope this helps!

Sounds. Like hamom material to me!

I ordered a Stage 1 ICON kit for my 3rd Gen. :bounce:

Have no idea when it will come in since it is a brand new kit. Front 2.5 Coilovers and rear non-resi 2.0 shocks. Will have to pick up some OME rear coils once I get notice that the kit is ready to ship. LT said probably be January '15 or maybe later given it being a new rear shock and with this sale apparently brings in a pile of orders for them.

Nice. I've got a vibration or something in our 3rd gen. I need to get it checked out. We rolled 240k over our Thanksgiving trip across the state.
