Installed some Lifetime LED's from Southeast Overland. Also installed an Aussie Locker - but that will require more attention...

I read about your troubles in another thread. I'm hoping it's a defective unit.

I was thinking the same, but I called Aussie Locker and explained to the engineer how we performed the installation... To get the gaps within tolerance, we could only fit one thrust washer in. None was not enough, two were too many, so we installed just one. He said that first and foremost the Aussie locker must be centered - so we need to investigate thrust washers of a custom thickness (these things were pretty thick). When I explained the symptoms of the clanging while driving, he said he believes that we've broken the pins and springs and will need new ones. I asked if there was a chance the locker was broken and he said "No, not a chance, but you need to have a look at the rest of your differential." Of course, that final statement was less than comforting... But we'll see what we got soon! I tell ya, if I had a lift, I'd already know what the problem was. Man, that was just too convenient! As it stands, I'm going to put it on jackstands and do it the old fashioned way - when I have the time of course :-) Probably over the holidays...

Contact David Benke. He has a lift and is local to you.

LOL! If he's up for it, I'll be enlisting his help again. But I was planning to just leave it apart while I either get new thrust washers or new pins/springs. For that reason, I wasn't planning to use his lift again because I didn't want to leave my car at his house taking up the space on his lift… Thanks for the suggestion, though! He has a very nice setup at his place.

This on your 80 I'm guessing? How far is it to his place?

You could drive it over, pull shafts, drain and pull diff, fashion a cover for the axle ends and the hole where the diff goes, lock in the CDL and drive home in Fwd. 95 is FF so in theory you don't even need stands to pull it at home. I actually installed my Spartan and never lifted a tire.

Yeah. I was just gonna say. You should be able to install the Aussie without lifting a tire.

His place is across a couple of bridges about 30 miles from my place. Not too bad of a distance… It's a good suggestion.

True, but I'm kind of a big guy and don't fit under the cruiser very well without it being lifted a bit :flipoff2: Plus I wouldn't have any leverage to lift the pumpkin… Did I mention that I'm also pretty weak?

Haha, you're no bigger than me! But, a lift is nice...I'll give you that.:flipoff2:

Those d@mn 9.5" diffs are pretty effin heavy. I think I jockey'd mine out with a floor jack and rolled it in and out on my creeper. Of course I have a lift and 35s so I had decent working room under there.

30 miles wouldnt be too bad, just pick a nice day and don't get in a hurry.

But...you are skinnier than us:flipoff2:. I mean, how many folks can fit two wide in the showers at Golden Mountain:grinpimp:?

Whatchu-talkin' bout Willis!

I'm not sure that'd be possible even with a pair of anorexic Nicole Richie's :smokin:

I fixed a busted diff support in the GX and I am going to pick up the Avocado saturday and drive her home from RI.

I actually worked on my own vehicle last week. My headlights were in such bad shape you could see through them. Bought the hella h4 conversion housings and a set of 80w low beam and 100w high beam hella bulbs. Also wired up a new relay harness to take the strain off the original wiring. Man what a difference. The Hellas put out a crisp line on low beams that don't blind oncoming traffic and since they are 80w and not the standard 55w they put out the light. It's like a whole new world. The h4 bulbs were cheap. Like 15$ for the pair. I'm in love

For the 40 or 80?

Gotta love the Hella conversion.

Yeah. Plus their bulbs are really bright.
