What did you do with your truck this week?

F'd my back swapping tires. Think the MT's will stay put for a while.
Newly rebuilt driveshafts and joints plus had the starter rebuilt for the 45.
So far its left me stranded and has a case of the grrrrrrrs. so much for seeking out the professionals. BTW the double cardan of the 45 requires an odd hard to locate and pricey cv .....go figure. the day I went to pick it up the tech was blown away he had to order the same joint that morning for a HINO box truck. never used that joint in 23 years and bought two sets in two days; so he ordered two more to have on the shelf.

I got my new sliders installed on the rig. We are ready to roll. Minus a legit NC tag...........:beer:

Seaduck..... truck is looking great, cant wait to see it in person.

You end up going with the gunmetal metallic or another choice?

J springs and L shocks on the front of the 80 with a 1" spacer  I'm crazy!!! But it sits more level than it did!! Now on to the caster correction by Slee, fun stuff!!!

I love the 4:1 and i dont think I have to worry about breaking it anymore but I did break a corse spline diff that ended up in my truck by accident.

Last weekend, we didn't get very far with Kitty's truck other than removing old motor mounts and cleaning up the engine bay (sanding surface rust, rattle canning). So I changed out my uniball joints in my UCA's. Pretty straight forward. The old ones had about 1/16" of play in them and have since gone into the bucket of parts for next year's GSMTR sculptures.

Changed Out Carb

So, I let Jay drive my 1982 40 a couple of weekends ago. While I warned him that the thing didn't run well except at full speed, he tested it in city driving. His diagnosis, bad carb. His solution, a better carb off of an 1982 FJ-60.

His carb definitely looked better, and with a can or two of carb cleaner shined up nicely.

So yesterday, after taking a nap, I "jumped in it" and changed it out (which required removing the air intake assembly). After about an hour, I had the "new" carb in, crossed my fingers, and cranked it up.

To my surprise, the truck started and ran like a champion! I didn't know just how powerful a truck I had.

Thanks Jay!

Put on new anti-inversion shackles and had an ebrake rebuild kit that had been sitting around for 6 months... did that. Still doesn't work, but it's nice and shiny!

New shoes...BFG KM2's MUCH quiter than my old MTR's.

Dropped in a shiny new THC dizzy
Rewired the plugs in the correct order
adjusted the valves and the carb
scored a free shroud in winston and got it painted and installed

(suicide door mod complements of no brakes on second push)

AND..... added it back to insurance policy so she can get a tag/ DMV next

Finally had time to figure out why my fuel pump isn't pumping fuel to the carb to finally start my new motor and realized I left the key in the "run" position and my nice Yellowtop Optima was at 4.5 volts.

After trying to charge it for 3 days, I broke down and bought a new one. When I picked it up from Advance they wanted to try to revive my old one. After 3 days on their charger it now holds at 12.55 volts. Not the optimum 13.1 volts, but it did make it to that on full charge, it just won't hold it there. I think the new one only held at 12.55 while sitting, so I returned it and now have more cruiser funds.:bounce::bounce2:

Now let's try it again tonight and see if I can fire this thing up.:)

I'm really liking mine, but still have minor clearance issues that require some percussive modeling to fix.:hillbilly:

Got a dinosaur!

Picked up a Rockbox #109 new, never installed!

230:1, 100:1, and 67:1 here I come for GSMTR!

I just have to focus on getting it to run 1:1 first!:lol::lol:

dude that is crazy low.......

SM420, rockbox, 3 speed cruiser case.

I can see that case grenading with the 230:1, so I really need a 10 spline Orion. The guy has the Orion to go behind this setup that was built by IPOR for $1000 which I REALLY want. However funds are limited. Maybe he will have it still in a few months as a 10 spline Orion is probably not very popular unless you are running an SM420 already.

Can you say 400:1, obviously know one would ever need to run both cases, I just need the iron case and helical gears for strength. Esp. behind a V8.

Correction!

Looks like I have a really rare oddball. It is actually a 2.20:1 rockbox from AA. I never new they actually made one in that size. Turns out they had an option at the time, but Gino at AA said they sold next to none of them.

I actually prefer that ratio, because with the 7.05 first gear and 3.44 with the 2.313 cruiser case would be a bit much.

Now I'll have:

148:1
67:1

Fired up the 40 for the first time in a year, almost to the date.

It was nice to hear that SBC V8 purrrr.

I felt like a real redneck when I popped the hood this morning.:flipoff2:

Video and pics later this week.
