Maybe Bronco, our traditional testing grounds?

14" aux pusher fan to help the a/c at idle,. Modding the center bracket was a pain... But it fit... 12" would have been alot easier..

I've been studying the steering gear rebuild all morning.
My steering is very sloppy, has been since I got the truck, even with all new TREs etc.
Did I ever pull the box and re-set the preload? No.
Should I? Probably.

Maybe this is just helping get my thoughts together.

The last few years abusing the steering, including some wheel impacts that bent stuff, has me thinking I'd like to do the 105 sector shaft upgrade.

I got that steering gear with busted sector shaft for free.
State of the internals unknown but everything does rotate.

Not purchasing a re-manufactured box.
Not going off-shore for expensive parts.

Result of compiling part lists:

Option 1 New steering box and pitman arm, $3400

Option 2 DIY maximum rebuild, replace all the big moving parts including new valve assembly, needle bearings, 105 shaft and arm, $1600.

Option 3 DIY minimum rebuild, including 105 shaft and pitman arm, $900.

Option 4 Redhead rebuild, without porting, $1100. Ports are another $110.
Should provide comparable performance to option 2.
Need to compare Blue-Top.

ToyotaPartsDeal had the best on-shore pricing, but I need to confirm parts availability.

I think I'll get the shaft and arm on order now, and open up that free steering box soon.
Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, as I have been been very busy the last several weeks, but you can only do the 105 shaft on a RHD 80. The gears are cut the opposite direction. I’m lucky enough to be able to do it, but the USDM 80’s need a similar option.

The part number I ordered ties to LHD 105s, so I guess we'll see when it gets here.

I would assume that it’s an UAE/South African 105 then. I’m unsure of what the differences are. I know when I was researching the upgrade, everything I found said it was a RHD only thing. I definitely can be wrong though. Mine being a 91, I probably have the weakest of the 80 gearboxes. It’s going to be a next year update, if it doesn’t break beforehand. I’m on my way out to the garage now to finally get some work done on it. It’s been 7 weeks since I have been able to even touch it.

I think they are symmetric but I won't be sure until I see one. This is the only picture I have found end-on. The teeth are narrower at the top than the bottom, so depending on the camera angle it looks like they are biased one way or the other.

Here's the build I'm looking at:

Partsouq shipped the arm but cancelled and refunded the sector shaft.
ToyotaPartsDeal says it is available but they don't actually check inventory at the dealerships.
I guess I order and see what happens.

It’s alive! Got my turbo in finally. HUGE improvement!!! EGT's are down 500* going into Cold Springs, boost comes on 450rpm sooner, IAT's are down, and I'm running a lot cooler. Only thing that I can think of is that there was a restriction in the exhaust housing. The housing
has a different serial number than the center and compressor. I’m thinking that they replaced it too.

I wish that Gturbo would have just been upfront and honest. I’m going to put some miles on it today and see how it all goes.

Does anybody have an 80 series exhaust cushion on hand? I can get a replacement in a few days but I'd like to mount the bumper this weekend.

Part number 17567-17010 like so:

I replied on Facebook, I have a couple used ones still attached to my old exhaust. Not sure on condition, but should help you.

Got the big girl out for a little drive today. Went up Peavine. Saw a bunch of losers tearing up the place. It sucks! Saw a couple of HORRIBLE drivers in Jeeps just not able to get up some easy spots. Just spinning and whaling around. I wish people would learn more about off-road driving.
