I will be going white on my roof. Hadn't thought about the PlastiDip. I didn't have very good luck with it on my front valance when I did my grill and around my headlights...

Did the rims initially in plastidip to see if I liked it. Fortunately, I did. Stripped off the plastidip, prepped stockers, and rattle-canned them. Eventually, I may powdercoat.

I went the knockoff way to save thousands :flipoff2:View attachment 1103936
Are these the 7"/8" or the full 9" "dinner plate" models? I've been watching these on ebay. The 7/8" or (188mm) comes in black and I think will fit better in the ARB. I'm concerned about the beam pattern. The original ARB intensity lights have a smooth consistent beam pattern. Some knockoff LED lights have all the right numbers (lumens, watts, size, etc) but an awful beam pattern.

I built my own mountain bike lights and although cutting edge 5 years ago, they aren't as bright as some of the current offerings. The reason I haven't replaced them is because of the smooth beam pattern from the center to outside edges. That quality seems very hard to find in the latest models.

I did my rims a few years ago with Rustoleum. I reshot them this winter to touch up a few nicks and chips. Holds up well.

I'm planning a trip there in November. Any tips or advice?

Get Sentri (http://www.bajabound.com/before/permits/sentri.php)- so you can use the faster lanes getting back into the US. Took us 3 hours on Monday to get across the border - just sat there - crawling in the regular lanes.......

other than that - we just followed all the usual advice that people say (don't travel at night etc etc) - whole thing was a breeze - my first time there - ran into a few military checkpoints - all smooth sailing- Ensenada is a bit of a pain to navigate through - ended up lost in downtown so make sure someone is navigating that one for you........

Your supposed to get an FMM tourist card as your traveling over 70? KM from the border but we were never asked to show ours at the checkpoints.....the new immigration office at El Chapperal makes this so simple - took 15 mins.

get Mexican auto insurance - illegal not to have it - cost us 60 bucks or so for 4 days.....

Enjoy - its an awesome place

It was a little longer than a weekend, but this is what my family and I did in our 80 over the past several days.

Those are pretty sweet! Interested in hearing how they work out. I could see @NLXTACY making some TEQ badges for where it says "LED" instead of ARB.

I have been running them for a while now. They are stupid bright but have no long range spot pattern (aka major light puke). For speeds under 40mph they work amazing, for higher speeds your near field night vision is destroyed so they are pretty much useless. Quality wise they are decent, I have compared them to the actual ARB's and you can tell the casting is different, but overall they are solidly built. The wiring loom is junk. I paid the same price as advertised on eBay and for the price I am mostly happy, until I am driving at higher speeds on country roads and then I wish I spent more money for something better.

Matt, do you have any shots of them at night?

Was installation a breeze? How complete were the setup instructions? How was the packaging? Did you get correct amount of hardware? I take it everything arrived perfectly with absolutely no issues with powder coat rubbing off or any of the components bent?

Was installation a breeze?
Yes unless you mixed up the right/left rails.

How complete were the setup instructions?
What installation instructions?

How was the packaging?
Not bad but not good.

Did you get correct amount of hardware?
Not sure because I have tons of left over parts but I seem to always have left over parts.

I take it everything arrived perfectly with absolutely no issues with powder coat rubbing off or any of the components bent

Some of the PC rubbed off and the rails were bent so working with scott from Prinsnu to resolve it.

Over all quite happy with it but need to now figure out how I will load it up for trips.

I cant talk about the output and beam patter of the lights. I'm still working on mounting them had a cut some scrap metal to extend the current light tabs on the bumper, these are 9 inch and in no way shape or form will they fit in the stock ARB bumper. I have bought many brand name lights throughout the years and I have to say that rigid led pods have the best light output I have seen. I have them on my wrx dd and like everything about them except the price.

FYI - Takes 2-6 months to get SENTRI and requires an in person interview. I've had mine for almost 5 years now and its unfortunately got a lot slower. The regular lanes during a weekday are almost just as fast through San Ysidro. Or just head east to Tecate.

You need a tourist card, get right at the immigration office when you cross south. The military checkpoints don't check for this, but the police do. They will do anything to get money out of you....just the way it is there.

Military checkpoints have been in the same places for the last 20 years and they are always mellow.

BTW -- San Quintin is the meth capital of Baja.
