In Japan some Surf's (4runners) come with Recaro seats. Those may be easier to retrofit if you could find some and they're from a Toyota.

Also, I drove the 80 from Cali to just north of SLC and back a couple days later. Have to do it again in a few days but I'll be staying there next time.

There are tons of Surfs up here, but I much prefer the VW Recaros. Based on some light reading they were built to a higher spec.

There are no logos on them or anything other than the "Recaro" stitching in the back rest. Doesn't matter much what they started out in, both would have to modified fairly significantly.

Put the front OME stock height front springs on. Also inverted the front KYB monomax shocks so that they are the right way up (drain end of bellows down).

Installed the axle bump stop i got from the junk yard on the rear passenger side, where the rubber block was missing. weird thing was, the rubber block was missing from that bump stop on the junk yard cruiser too. maybe this is just a 'thing'. Go figure.

Love the new ride. Need to list up my OE springs for sale.

Camping near Slickrock trail.

fwiw, I love the way the OME + Monomax ride feels.

But it should be stated that i learned to drive in a '77 Fiat Spider with KYB gas shocks, and my last two daily drivers had Koni dampers and low profile tires. I **LIKE** road-feel. This ride may be too harsh for some, but to me seems similar to my buddy's LX450 with 2" medium OME and nitrochargers.

The stupidest vehicle i ever drove, in my opinion, worse even than a buick, was a Ford F250 that was so mashmallowey that i couldn't even tell that i had parked with one wheel on a curb. What a dainty brute it was.

Swapped axles between my locked 96LC and my formerly unlocked but otherwise built 97 LX. Finally have a lifted, armored, triple locked cruiser.

Getting through my shopping list of "Stuff to git dun" during my lay week.
Upgraded both of the interior lights(already done the maplight) with LED panels actually soldered wires on not used the dodgy adapters.
Replaced the dashlights in the instrument cluster with LED replacements.
While I had the dash apart I replaced the old stereo with a double din unit incorporating GPS, Bluetooth, Reverse cam monitor DVD/CD AM/FM Radio.
Sized up where to mount my rear backup spotlights.
Bought a winch, which just added to the Stuff to git dun list.

Put new brake calipers with pads on in the rear. My PS rear caliper had seized up on me and needed replacing.

More pics of the 80 on 40s please

^ what did it solve?

Well the boot was shot... Now mind you that with the console in place I wouldn't see it but I would know it was there. So I guess maybe more peace of mind knowing that it's sealed like it's supposed to be. ;)

Carpet comes next.

I apologize if that came across as snarky or sarcastic, it wasn't meant that way. But it's the fact that it was torn and damaged like GCrad1 found on his 92. When I pulled mine apart I found the same thing so I followed the link he provided to Spectre Off-road and ordered one. Now it's fixed.

No it was fine. I'm trying to ascertain if it was purely aesthetics or if perhaps it allowed in moisture or heat or?

Possibly both... Well heat for sure. Moisture... Well if you're into mudding and river crossings? For sure. It's not for aesthetics of that I can be certain. You can see from the old manky looking one it was completely destroyed and that was not from my removal skills. The new one (actually I paid for a pulled part off of a vehicle) has its boots all complete. I soaked the part in some silicone for a few days to get it nice and soft and protected for the next 20+ years to come.

Moved to them 40s if anyone wants to buy a set of 37x13.50r17 Goodyear MTR kevlars they are about 90-95% tread!

Also went camping out at grandparents farm and messed around in the creek

WOW!

I just went to 35s and this got me having size envy again, I mean who wouldn't like another 5 inches? :hillbilly:

More pictures please!

Let's see - I was able to do the 'Rear Heater Bypass mod' (which meant I had to flush my radiator and coolant) - also did an oil/filter change - replaced all my radiator hoses (3 main pieces) - replaced the 3 drive belts - unwired an air horn setup from a PO and rewired in the stock horns - bedlined the entire interior - reinstalled the seats and trim - threw in some Husky liners up front (rear was ordered but showed up in wrong color so it's going back) - installed a Land Rover cup holder - and the :princess: and I just got back from the Cruiser's maiden voyage as a carpetless rig - she enjoyed it

...think that's all - maybe 12 hours worth of work or so
