Trail riding and camping in North Georgia. Mostly 80's, a jeep and a 4 runner.

This is in the Northeast corner of Georgia, some of the forest service roads cross into North Carolina. rjinga has a write up on the 80's page, I borrowed one of his pictures. I drove my '62 up from Florida. 1200 road miles, 100 trail miles and about 3 miles in the river.

Cool, I'll take a look. I spent a weekend in the northeast Georgia mountains this past spring running some trails with a buddy, they aren't technical but they were scenic and fun!

Been a busy weekend, installed a reverse camera, alarm system and covered the gear stick with para cord. The cord has really muffled the noise coming up the stick.

I went hunting in WMU 349 in Alberta, half way between Whitecourt and Swan Hills. I used my ARB air locker and wished I had a winch. Thanks to the two guys and their son who happened along with their one ton dually towing an 8 wheel Argo. I never got your names but thanks for the pull. I can't believe you showed up only 45 minutes after I got stuck. I also can't believe your dually made it through that hole and I hope you made it to your hunting camp ok - good luck filling your tags.

A little background about this part of the world. The area between Whitecourt and Swan Hills has a very special kind of mud. Now, I have a lot of off roading experience, I used to have a built Jeep TJ, was a member of the Calgary jeep club when I lived there and have been stuck more times than I can remember. I've been wheeling all over the world, from the muskeg of the West Country, to the roots and rocks of the Rockies. With friends I've driven a Nissan patrol and an old Mercedes wagon from Paris to Dakar. I've even off roaded a moped thru southern India. But the mud found in this area is different, unique really. When dry, the roads are fine but with even a skiff of snow or a brief rain it turns to the slickest, greasiest, most slippery mud you've even seen. And what's really neat is it's also the stickiest mud ever. Take a few steps (if you don't end up on your butt) and your boots will weigh 20 pounds.

So, although the roads were fine when I went in yesterday morning, it snowed just a touch overnight and then melted this afternoon. So you end up with 1/8" of slippery goose sh#t on top of hard pack clay road and you're lucky if you can keep your truck in the ruts. Did I mention that IH8MUD!

Once I got off the lease road onto the blue ridge logging road I still had 8-9 km of white knuckle, nail biting, 1st gear crawling at walking speed at a 45 degree angle to the road or 2nd gear full throttle rear locker engaged mayhem just to maintain forward momentum up a slight grade kind of driving. You know, the kind of driving where you hope there is no oncoming traffic because you're using the entire road and know if someone is coming the other way you'll both end up sliding off the road into the ditch.

Anyway, that's my story, no deer in the freezer (although I was busted twice) and if anyone has a warn 8274 let me know.
