Hey Dave, are you going to make those as an option for the passenger side of your fj60 rear bumper? Hope you are well! Georg over at Valley Hybrids hooked me up with that 5 speed I was looking for and did a sweet job working with me.

Had a very similar ladder drawn up for Goss' rear..(had 2 designs 1-retractable/1 folding) 43" step to top of bumper is a doozy... Good work Dave.

I looked at doing a retracting one but because the first bend of my top ladder was only 12" from the bottom, and I wanted at least 16" of extension,
the retracting one wouldn't really work. Also using a "tube within a tube" style retraction meant you couldn't put any steps in the extension.
The other consideration is wear on the finish coat. If you powdercoat or paint the finish on the extension would most likely wear badly
from sliding in and out of the other tube.

Like always I save all plans and drawings. I would need to make a different arm. Because of the taper of the roof on the 60, the basket pedestal had to be
shifted to center. I'll have picks of the installed up by the end of the weekend

....there may even be a small fold down table on the inside of the basket arm.... now that I'm older I find myself doing more expedition type cruising. Rock Crawling competitions were great fun ..when I was younger

Dave, mine is about a 15" leg after the bend.

The retractable is like a RTT ladder. Telescoping breakdown. I was looking at a two stage positive stop slide and then using stainless steel for the legs to prevent any pesky coating issues.

We'll see if it comes to fruition one afternoon while I'm in the shop.

Cheers

I used a galvanized ladder traction rung where I'll be stepping. I'm going to mask off the rungs when I powder. The powder will stop about 1" in from the side rails to cover the welds where the zinc burns off. I'm trying to control material costs by reducing the about of pre-manufactured components.
Aside from the ladder treads, latch and hinge components and a retractable pull pin for the ladder lock I can build the rest myself. I will probably add
two Rotopax mounts for a pair of 2 gallon water cans so I guess I'll be tacking a few bucks more to the project

Yesterday finished the process of changing the intake/exhaust gasket but the engine didn't turn on! I ran with carb cleaner for almost 15 seconds. It means the electrical is good. Also gas is being delivered to the injectors. It seems the injectors refuse to operate. Next I will go to check the efi relay, fuel pressure regulator.

Installed an A-pillar grab handle in my 60!
