Advics wheel cylinder was not at fault! The pin that holds the shoes in place wore a hole in the backing plate and allowed the shoes to shift, which destroyed the liner of one of the shoes and allowed the rod in the wheel cylinder to get pushed too far out. Ok, I think I was wrong about the pins, the backing plate appears to be fine. The holes that the pins go through appear to both still be round and the same diameter.

Got the BMW seats installed w the Torfab brackets. These are from a 2015 325i, cost me $200 plus the brackets. What a massive improvement- I think this could be the best “bang for the buck” modification going. Still need to reinstall the Tuffy console, waiting on a switch/indicator for the seat power, which should be here tomorrow. Since I ditched the original rear heater, I just used that relay circuit to power the seats.

(Edit) Oh and I passed PHX emissions again this week. 260k, original engine.
That color is a pretty good match for the brown Land Cruiser interior. Looks great.

Any reduction in headroom versus the stock seats?

Took a long time to find this color in decent condition. 19/20 BMW interiors are black by my estimate 😆

I have more room in every dimension, mainly since the up/down is adjustable whereas the stock seat is not. Better support everywhere too. I had a 3 series before and they were some of the best seats I ever had. Headroom is fine, I’m 6’0.

Nice. Did you end up finding them at a local jumkyard or what?

Had been watching CL and Marketplace for maybe 6-8 months. Had a search for "bmw partout". A small dismantler had posted pics of the car and I could see the seats appeared in good shape, and when I asked for more pics he sent them. Prior to that I probably contacted 10 other sellers that either never responded or the seats were in poor shape and not worth my drive to check out.

2 week, 3800 mile round trip from AL to AZ and back. AL-MS-LA-TX-NM-AZ and flip the states around. 2F has over 300k on it and I changed oil before leaving. The level is only down about a quart and still looks good. Interstate and TX back roads could run 70, hit the hills and 70 ain't happening. 2500 on the tach was the sweet spot.

Fuel mileage was low, ca. 11-12.

Sounds like quite the odyssey. Turned out great.

They look good in there. I have access to a set of black 3 series seats that will probably end up in my 60. I have to cut out the jack holder under my drivers seat to use the TORFAB brackets though.

Wheeled around the Sierras and Sweetwater mountains in eastern CA for a few days. Beautiful and remote. 1HZ crapped out trying to climb Mt Patterson at ~10k ft so had to sit shotgun in my buddy's rover to get to the summit at 11.6k ft.

Just curious, what happened to the 1hz? My diesel engine was also not very happy at high altitude, but it kept chugging along, although smoking pretty bad. All was more or less fine once I got back under 10k ft...

On steep grades when I tried to accelerate or just keep moving it would surge and buck with lots of smoke. After sitting and idling for a minute or two I would be able to make a little progress before it happened again. Seemed to be worse higher in the revs

Symptoms persisted even at freeway speeds around climbing grades at 4k ft but seemed to be completely solved after I filled the tank. One theory is maybe I am getting a small amount of air in the lines somewhere. I added Cetane boost/injector cleaner and it maybe helped as well.

Took a ride to take a ride.

How do you like those tires? I assume the 35x10.5 size?
Absolutely love them. We don't have a lot of mud but we do have ice and they do great. Had them on my old 200 and thought they were the perfect tire.

I love that color! Great looking rig.
Funny, i wish it hadn't been painted (originally freeborn red). It's a great 30' rig. Unfortunately, that rocker trim was lost in a move and I haven't come across a replacement.

I was thinking at4ws but these look really good and I’m a big pizza cutter fan
Likewise. They are relatively quiet and fantastic in ice and snow. Caveat being that I have an old set of Toyo MTs that I throw on for late chukar season when the desert roads can turn to soup during a single morning in the field. But I honestly think these would do fine.

I also own a Duramax as my other vehicle, so I don't do any heavy towing on those tires.
