Finished painting the 80 series front axle housing. It was a real rusty mess when I got it. The center part was still clean from the engine oil but the ends were rusty. I had it sandblasted the other day. Metal's a but thinner but still good...

Such a satisfying job. Now to do the other components, resurface the balls and rebuild the diff and knuckles.

What is your paint of choice? Also what did it cost for the blasting?

Yeah that would be an option if one exists for that size. I got a speedi sleeve for the spindle but considering the price of a new spindle, hardly worth the worry.

The epoxies seem to be pretty hard. They file with some effort. It think I'll try that.

I scrubbed with POR degreaser and a toothbrush, then sprayed down with tap water which is really pure here. Maybe use distilled water if your tap water is hard. Then blew it off with compressed air and let it dry in the sun. Then painted with a brush using Eastwood rust encapsulator. I used this since there is always some rust left and this should be able to keep it away. In the nooks and crannies I used green internal frame saver with the wand to get in there. Today I finished it off with a top coat of rustoleum black automotive enamel from a spray can because that's what I had, I think any black chassis paint will do.

Blasting was $200. Compared to how much time I'd be messing with it, it's worth it. For the smaller pieces like radius arms, diff housing and knuckles, I'll take them to the U-blast location in Langley where they will fit in the blast cabinet and do them myself.

Much appreciated, hoping to do similar soon! Need to find a nice blasting cabinet to rent nearby since I’m out of space
 
Thursday afternoon I finally got color shot on the firewall. There’s also paint on the frame now.

Then I got up early on Friday and flew to Denver to pick up a Tacoma from my dad. I then drive it home to Bozeman up through Teton and Yellowstone! Except for the rain on Sunday afternoon it was a perfect fall trip.

I ordered an OEM muffler/tailpipe for my 62 from an online Toyota dealer. This is how it arrived today, shipped Atlanta to Chicago. My wife called me at work quite puzzled and freaked out by what was on the front porch as it looked like a body. Package was a bit over 7' long. LOL
To their credit it seems to have made it intact!

Got out and wheeled a bit. Sorry no pics but just ridin' the Pinnacle Mountain Rd along Dupont forest near Brevard NC. Took my 10yo daughter with me and she was smiling the whole way. Great feeling to have a good running rig and nothing but time. Lots of memories have been made with "Maxine" the Landcruiser. Hope to pass it down to the Daughter, that is if she will have it...

How much did you pay for the rebuild and how long did it take? I called west Texas off-road last week and they said they don’t do em for anything earlier than FJ80s, except for 1 or 2 specific vendors…
 
I replaced my fusible link with a setup close to what FJ60binh described. My next project is to replace or rebuild my steering gear box. It's leaking badly.
