Caught up on a bunch of stuff the past couple of weeks that I've been needing to do. New water pump and associated hoses, new brake master cylinder, flushed and bled brakes and clutch, installed a fuel tank I got from a MUD member a long time ago and had professionally cleaned (my old one had been shedding rust after PO let it sit for years), replaced power steering soft lines and replaced fluid with Dextron. Also went to the dealer for OEM wiper blades and installed those.

Will post up some pics later, ready for a road trip now.

@DougRFJ62 Engine bay is ready for some EROD love.

Today I took my LC for a casual Saturday drive around Richmond, Va.

While out, I stopped at the local Toyota dealership service counter to inquire about the original owner’s maintenance records perhaps still in Toyota’s system. According to my VIN and Toyota’s records, the gas tank recall in 1991 was the only work in their system.

Since I bought my LC, my brother-in-law sends me pics of LCs whenever he sees them in Austin, TX. He just sent this pic to me. It makes me wonder whether or not it belongs to someone here on MUD.

Part 2️⃣: FJ62 lift gate project.
Step 1️⃣ remove the old lift gate (no pictures because somehow I managed to take it off and put the new one on single handed...only almost dropped it once 😱😂. This included messing with the headliner to get to the electrical plugs.
2️⃣ swap all bits from the old door to the new one (lock, door latch mechanism, wiper motor, stickers 😂😳).
3️⃣ 🐍 the new window washer tubing and wiring for the new LED third brake light from GoWesty Campers
4️⃣ magically install the new door by myself (highly recommend against this)
5️⃣ reassemble as much as possible

Part 3️⃣ will include wiring the 3rd brake light, finishing up with the washer tubing, reconnecting all the electrical and testing it. Then I can put the headliner back together.

Also, I’ll have to change the double sided tape to black at some point because the gray tape sticks out like a sore thumb...otherwise it looks almost stock and jives with the lines of an older vehicle. who thought gray tape was a good idea? 🤦🏼‍♂️

Does anyone have a recommendation for plating?

I’d like to get the lock plate in the second pic refurbished. It’s NLA and I’ve only seen ones that are that bad or worse.

Quick trip to Georgia and back on Saturday to grab a replacement fuel tank for the '97 FZJ80. Initially tossed in the cargo area but fumes from the residual gas was too much even with windows open. We drove only about a mile before stopping to strap down the tank on the roof rack.

Replaced the rusty old battery tray with stainless, upgraded the lights and wiring harness, repaired the headlight washer tank, replaced the windshield squirted pump, and generally just started with little projects on the new 60.

No 3FE joy here. Swapped out the t-stat yesterday and flushed the coolant. Too much stuff on the t-stat housing, Toyota needs to redesign this mess . Note the missing bolt, it snapped. A little extra gasket goo should do the trick . I have a spare housing but I'll wait until I have to swap out a radiator or water pump before I dig back into this quagmire of hoses, wires, and vac lines.

Put in an LED to keep that plastic looking fresh!
I did ;)
Wrapped it in amber lense tape to make it look closer to the real deal. I didn’t like it at first and then I tried adding a second layer of tape and that was the ticket!
