Tried Hurricane Creek this week and found it not passable anymore (for stock rigs with no winches) due to severe washout and mud, so I backed out of that trail and hit the main forest road in NC on the way to Max Patch. Ended up going past Max Patch NC into Cherokee National Forest and from there to Rattlesnake Gap near where I hit a black mud patch near the end of tower road at Round Mountain TN. It was late so I ended up camping on the trail overnight and hoping the rig wouldn't slide down the rest of the mountain in the torrential downpour that night.
In the morning, I hiked to Del Rio and on the way some bear hunters attempted to help me get the truck unstuck, but a t100 with a strap wasn't gonna be able to do it. They gave me a ride into town where folks asked around and eventually we found a guy with a Chevy c30 4x4 wrecker with some trail tires that could make it up the rough jeep trail.
I thought I was for sure gonna lose my rig down the mountain, it was about 85ft of brush before the trees started, so it would've rolled. I made some good friends in Del Rio and also learned the importance of recovery gear beyond a shovel. Next time I head off into the unknown, I'll ask the locals about the trails worth doing and I'll bring a buddy.

Eeek! Nothing like an impromptu camping trip. I brought home a new to me Warn 8274 just yesterday. It’s a project for another day but can’t wait to outfit my rig with it. I’ve backed out of plenty of places knowing if I get stuck there’s no way to get out.
