Tried Hurricane Creek this week and found it not passable anymore (for stock rigs with no winches) due to severe washout and mud, so I backed out of that trail and hit the main forest road in NC on the way to Max Patch. Ended up going past Max Patch NC into Cherokee National Forest and from there to Rattlesnake Gap near where I hit a black mud patch near the end of tower road at Round Mountain TN. It was late so I ended up camping on the trail overnight and hoping the rig wouldn't slide down the rest of the mountain in the torrential downpour that night.

In the morning, I hiked to Del Rio and on the way some bear hunters attempted to help me get the truck unstuck, but a t100 with a strap wasn't gonna be able to do it. They gave me a ride into town where folks asked around and eventually we found a guy with a Chevy c30 4x4 wrecker with some trail tires that could make it up the rough jeep trail.

I thought I was for sure gonna lose my rig down the mountain, it was about 85ft of brush before the trees started, so it would've rolled. I made some good friends in Del Rio and also learned the importance of recovery gear beyond a shovel. Next time I head off into the unknown, I'll ask the locals about the trails worth doing and I'll bring a buddy.

Eeek! Nothing like an impromptu camping trip. I brought home a new to me Warn 8274 just yesterday. It’s a project for another day but can’t wait to outfit my rig with it. I’ve backed out of plenty of places knowing if I get stuck there’s no way to get out.

All done and ready to ship her to the new owner in Florida.

Suspension swap on the '85 today. I've had a BDS suspension on it for almost 20 years. BDS was too stiff but lived with it. I recently changed out the OME on the '86 and swapped those springs over to the '85. Even though the OME has about 200k miles on the springs it gave the '85 a little more lift over the BDS.

which front/rear OME springs did you go with? Looks great!

I don't remember the specific model designations. Front springs are rated heavy and were in use for ca. 12 years and have ca. 200k miles on them. Rears are heavy and are the ones with the lower arch (B perhaps). These have been in use for a year (ca. 25k miles) under a very heavy FJ60, not this tan one which is sitting empty.

Catching up from the last couple of weeks - installed LEDs from SuperbrightLEDs in my dash and also a sweet set of dome lights from @Gun Runner 5 at Odd-Iron. Also replaced the light for the heater controls which was missing completley. What a difference!!

Before shot - both the left cluster and the heater bulbs were not working at all.

After shot - only replaced the green bulbs

Here are the bulbs from Superbright. I had to slightly grind down the ends of the festoon to make it fit in the housing

Getting the dash out was not as bad as I thought. To make it easier I cut the cable tie holding the speedo cable and pulled it out of the holder next the the transmission. Ended up having enough slack that I could easily reach and disconnect it from the cluster.

A previous owner put a roof rack on her and bent/broke the paint on the roof rail. So please do this...

We can't match new pin stripes to the originals...so they are removing all and I guess they will be hand painted back on the whole vehicle, if the blemishes don't buff out. I am really psyched about the 35 y/o paint chips, nicks, etc. being removed.... FYI, the arb bumper kicked ass. I will post more next "weekend" ha.
