I know white oak makes a poly bushing for the rack

My rack bushings were totally shot at 150K. Wheeling did them in. I am sure yours are getting loose too and a new set of bushings (or a new rack) would make it drive nice again. I just replaced the rack with a reman that already had new bushings in it, but poly bushings would last even longer.
 
Well i thought it was cold yesterday but it turns out today was even colder heading to work. I’m ready for summer now. First pic was yesterday morning and second was this morning in the tundra

I've been in -22°C but not F, good grief that is cold!

And here I am shivering with a sweatshirt on because it's below 55° F.

I haven’t seen above 50 F in almost 2 months haha well maybe once or twice but it feels longer than that. At least next week it’s supposed to get up to 45 F so that’s something to look forward to
 
Finished up my secret cubby in the glovebox inspired by an older post here on mud.

Removed the CD changer and gutted the box. I lined the box with some thin cardboard, and then put black felt down on top of that. Re-assembled the box and re-installed it.

Now I’ve got a “secret” cubby behind the cd changer door.

Planning on doing something similar with the DVD player in the center console. I’ve removed the DVD player, but want to cut out the divider and the existing cubby, and 3d print an insert that takes advantage of the extra space.

Thank you! I was thrilled with how the felt turned out. Snagged a pack of 15 or sheets of felt backed with adhesive from Amazon for like $10, and they worked great for this. Scored very high on the girlfriend approval factor xD which is always nice
 
Changed the rear diff, TC, and front diff fluids today. I did this in December 2020 (maybe 15K miles ago), but had done quite a bit of off-roading and a lot of creek crossings since then. The rear fluid was nasty, and came out milkshake-colored at first (must have gotten some water in it during a creek crossing despite having the extended diff breather). The TC fluid looked OK and the front diff fluid was pretty dark as well. I had used Lucas 75w90 full synthetic last time, but switched to Valvoline 80w90 conventional this time due to cost. I was not impressed as the Lucas looked worse than 10-year old diff fluid I removed from my previous Subaru - it did not hold up. The moral is - if you go off road often and go through creeks, change it yearly. And stay away from the Lucas synthetic gear oil.

Also my fluid injector worked really good. I just set the hose in the fill plug, maintained 20-30 PSI with a cordless inflator, and let the fluid flow in. Took around 4-5 minutes to get it in, despite temps being 30F out.

My lower front diff drain plug was also a bear to get out, despite torquing it to 30 ft/lbs last time. I had to get an impact-rated 10 mm hex bit (after breaking an non-impact rated one) and pound on it for 20-30 seconds with my Milwaukee impact. Then it broke loose and dumped gear oil all over my floor. I'll probably need to weld a nut on it for removal next time, so I preemptively ordered one of these with a 14-mm external hex bolt.

Headlight polish today. Definitely grabbing new headlights soon - the oem ones have some cracks and wear that sanding and polish wont fix.

That being said, 45 minutes of work and $15 for the 3M kit, and I’m pretty happy with the results.
Used that same kit of my wife's Outback. Huge difference, and well worth the cost. It still looks great 6 months later.
 

Prevent

Preventative maintenance. R1 brakes, Brake stop lines and replacing leaky radiator. Feels good to work on my own vehicle now. Not sure what they did at recent 120k mile dealer service but poking around didn’t show much love. For what dealer wanted to charge for just radiator, I did radiator, brakes, hoses, thermostat and a new compressor.

What made you choose R1 brakes? Is this considered a noticeable upgrade over OEM?

A shop in Houston, TX recommended them. They are noticeably better than my old stock setup but I am working out a little shaking on deceleration, probably installers error, been a while since last install. Next tear down will include Energy Suspension complete bushing kit and planning for suspension lift and upgrades.
