I replaced the drain plugs and fill plugs in my Trans and transfer cases and I put one more coat of rattle can on my roof. Roof wa all rusted all the way around the drip rail - most of it rusted through been grinding, sanding, sealing with rust bullet, and then filling with plastic metal. Finially got to where i can start to put paint on - doing white to cut down on heat - starting to look dedcent.

Nice looking Piggy!

Electronic Ignition

Check out Petronix - easy to do. Fairly inexpensive, seems to work great. Cost including their special coil is about $100.00. Pretty much drop in.

Not so much for my Pig, another 'Mudder's...been trying to get the bottom channel off of this back window for weeks now. Finally came apart today.

Looks familiar, I did the same thing on mine. Luckily I had a spare hanging around.

Popped out the cargo glass and broken windshield to replace the headliner and windshield.

another stroll through the woods. this time guardsman pass.

hooked up the tach, threw the GPS up on the windshield and did a 60 mile freeway trip. I wanted to see, 1) how it handled at freeway speeds after rebuilding the trunnion bearings, 2) how accurate the speedo was with 33X9.50 tires, and 3) what rpms I was pulling at what speeds.

What I found: handled quite well. The speedo is 6mph slow in 4th gear, consistently from 45-70mph. Also, in 4th gear, I am turning 2400rpm at 55mph, and every 5mph is 200 rpm more, 2600rpm is 60mph, 2800rpm is 65mph, and 3000rpm is 70mph. That is all the faster I ran it, though it seemed to have a lot more rpm in her. Those speeds are gps speeds, not speedometer readings.

BTW, those rpm/speeds are consistent with the 40, which has the same tires.

Off-road and camping pics to come. As soon as I can get to time to go camping. :frown:

My pig had a rattler attack.....amazing what some sandpaper and $10 worth of spraypaint can do. The PO had brushed on some kind of paint that was flaking and had fisheyes....drove me nuts. Looks excellente now! Took about an hour total

fixed the passenger side taillight/turn signal. There were two wires in there the same color that weren't connected to anything so I hooked them together and it works. :D

Gas spout replace

The top of the gas spout on my pig was wearing down and the gas cap would not tighten down. Got this new spout some where a few years ago? Might of been at a swap meet? Anyway, the new one looks a lot better than the old one and it also has a flapper plate(?). The old one didn't have that 'feature'? When did that flapper plate become standard on pigs? My truck is a 75, so it was after that year.

got my cargo panels back in. Pulled all the door panels as I had to re-glue them. Got some nice hex-head screws to clean up the look of the door panels. Aside from some minor detail stuff, I'm done!

The flap would have come along as a restrictor for unleaded fuel only vehicles.

My guess would be around 1976?

My '78 40 is badged as "Unleaded Fuel Only" and has the flap.

Thanks. I will go along with 76.

Did you drill new holes for the screws? I used black door panel clips on mine. The plastic clips fit in the existing holes.

The PO put new holes in with sheet metal screws. When I made these I laid the old ones over the new ones and drilled thru so the screw holes would line up. Basically I didn't drill new holes, I used the holes the PO made.

Won this at a cruiser raffle many moons ago

Won this at a Rubithon raffle, oh, several years ago. Finally got around to installing it on my 55. My 40 already as a winch on it, so I was saving this one for the pig. To be honest, I have probably used the winch on my 40, maybe a half dozen times on the trail in the past 10 years. Not a whole lot, but it's always better to be prepared;p
