Changed front/transfer case/rear diff fluid, replaced trans fluid, cleaned KandN filter, tightened batter terminals. Next step is to redo all ground mouunts, i think they may be corroded from the detail.

CBT did a preventative maintenance replacement of my original radiator with an OEM 94 80-series copper unit. Hopefully it will keep the Green Machine cool for the June run!

Also had CBT upgrade my factory 80 Amp alternator with a 2006 Toyota Sequoia 150 Amp unit (mental-note... replace those 100 amp fuses Mike...) Used the bracket and pulley from Photoman. That guys fab/machining work is top-notch! I replaced the brushes and installed the pulley. That is all that I can take the credit for doing myself. Similar upgrade is listed in the thread below. It was raining too hard for me to take my own pictures :princess:

Greased the ujoints and slip yokes. I was getting some pretty loud groans when coasting on the hwy down hill during the April ROTM. I was surprised to find the slip yokes loose. Probably pumped 20 shots of grease in each one before they firmed up. I have greased them at least twice in the past two years.

Since picking up a 3rd generation 4Runner I really didn't end up needing I've been playing scuffle vehicles weeks days moving them around. This weekend I moved my 68 FJ40 from my garage of misfit toys here in the valley to my garage of misfit toys up north. Plan is not only to provide garage parking for all registered vehicles but hopefully make some room to work inside. Probably not the best weekend to do it but had plans to met someone from Prescott area heading to the EXPO to get a 60 series skid plate and fan shroud. Have no real use for the fan shroud if anyone needs one.

Also worked on getting a muffler in the FJ62. Tool I had along to expand the heavy wall pipe between the CATS and muffler wasn't up to the task. So brought the mufflers/tailpipes back to town. Now won't know until Friday night before the end of the month run if I can take it. Plan B I'm driving the 3rd gen 4Runner up north to use if need be.:meh:

Took my son camping with a group from church, after seeing the weather report I knew sleeping in a tent wasn't going to be fun. I built a sleeping platform out of scrap lumber. Overall it was wet and cold but we had fun, now I just need to get a good sleeping pad. The weather started out with rain and switched to snow sometime during the night. Son had a blast and I'm sure he will want to go again soon.

Changed out the clamps holding my diff breather from plumbing straps to some fancy rubber padded clamps.

Took out the sleeping platform I made earlier in the week when I discovered my plan to have a flip up front portion that would go over my folded down second row seats (not tumbled all the way forward) wasn't going to work because I hadn't built it tall enough. Which actually worked out pretty well so I will have more drawer space underneath it now. Didn't get it finished but got the frame built. Also found brown carpet that is a dead match for the factory carpet so I'm pretty stoked about that. Unfortunately I had to order it and it isn't cheap.

Lowering underhood temperature while crawling or idling.
Can you show a picture of this this when the hood is closed

Curious does the FJ80 have the same overheating problems as the FZJ80? My FJ62 with 3FE cools fine. Years ago I noticed at Table Mesa road the engine was running hot. I managed to drive it back to town by running the heater and driving slow. The thermostat was stuck closed just the bypass kept the temperature down enough to get back to town. It was the middle of the summer but still impressed I was able to do it. The 100 series cooled great just like my 4Runners and Sequoia. The FZJ80 had a short run (five years) compared to other Toyota truck and SUV models. Wonder if this played into that. Also is this is part of the head gasket issue? The same time period as the 3.0 liter V6 in the mini truck and 2nd generation 4Runner. Not one of Toyota's better times for power plants.

Just to be clear. I don't have any overheating problem. I have owned 4 FZJ80s and 3 out of 4 have had head gasket replaced for different reasons, one of those is actually head gasket failure at 125k miles. The one with original head gasket from factory is still running strong with over 200k miles. Unfortunately, I don't have any other model to compare to :(. I can't say FZJ80 has overheating problem based on my experience.
