New whine in the A340f transmission today. Bummer, sounds like a planetary/overdrive gear going south.
Talked to my friend who owns a transmission shop. Good news/bad news, looks like another flex plate (one of my first thoughts when I heard the familiar noise).
The puzzle is getting put together, someone posted up to check if the alignment pins were on the back of the engine block. At that time it was too late, I had already replaced it and everything was bolted back in place. This has been nagging me for 3 years now. The previous owner replaced the original engine with a low mileage 5vz-fe imported from Japan.
The whine is due to the trans housing shifting and causing the input being out of alignment and the ticking is the cracks in the flex plate itself.
Bet a dollar when I break this apart again I better have some dowels in hand to fill those holes.

Installed an UltraGuage. I couldn't settle on any of the "recommended" places to install it. I put it where I could see it while driving and it didn't get too crowded with my phone and iPad Ram mount set up. I had to shave a bit off of the plug to get it through the dash. I mounted the OBD plug vertically and used rubber spacers so I can easily move it in the event I need to pull a fuse. Pretty cool little device.
Rotopax, prepping for summer road trip to CO (thinking Imogene or Ophir), on our way back to what I still call home in No Dak. One scare last year driving through Eastern Montana and West North Dakota on a Sunday when the gas light comes on will do it. Maybe poor planning but, fixed thinking that having, albiet small, another 50ish mile range can't hurt.
Trial run for the new GFC on my Tundra was for a biking trip on Elden Springs Road in Flagstaff.
Loaded to the max: 4 guys, 4 bikes, decked drawers, 15 gallons of water, camping gear, propane fire pit
Even with an extra leaf in the rear pack plus new shocks you could really feel the +1,400lbs (which is just about to the payload limit)

How it handle in the wind? Been to Flagstaff three time in the last week. Winds were bad every time. Twice in a 2nd gen Sequoia and once in a 4th gen 4Runner. Didn't feel unsafe but could certainly tell it was windy.
On the road, the bumps in the highway south of Flagstaff were worse than the wind. It was not as bad as a trailer in the wind, maybe the weight of the truck helped reduce getting blown around the road.
In the forest, the canvas is a vinyl coated fabric which is rather taught. In the tent the wind is not loud and does not feel like it is going to blow your tent away.
Finally got around to replacing my radiator. TYC with home air conditioner foam @LandCruiserPhil suggested in another post.
This actually made my AC run cooler than using stock Toyota radiator.

Is there a PN and a certain location you sourced this foam from? I was thinking of filling that void with a rubber hose.
