No, there's still a gap. I'm planning on a plywood floor on the top parts of the ribs and will keep the void for air to get in and out. I plan on doing a limited camper build in the back and I figure completely blocking moisture from reaching the metal isn't going to happen no matter how hard I'd try. Instead my thoughts are to keep the moisture from being trapped.

Lookin' goooooood with the sound deadening. We did the same but then added 3/8 mass loaded vinyl from the firewall to the rear doors. I don't like the adhesive sound deadening. My uncle refurbs Chevy C20/Apache/Suburbans. Puts L92 engines in them, tunes, etc. He's told me horror stories of completely body-off restos been done with Dynamat (Carbuilders in OZ) and water gets into under the sheets, completely rotting out the body. "They" say it's water proof but I'd like to be able to pull back the mat to make sure it's not oxidizing...
I'm pretty positive the butyl is waterproof, but I could see how you could get voids under the edges of the sheets that would trap water, particularly where there are compound curves. Hopefully I haven't created more problems than I'm solving! The product I'm using is from Second Skin.

Driving from our old house to the new one with a load of stuff in the back of the bj-73 today, I started hearing strange noise when I slow down and went on the on ramp onto a different highway. 1 minute later the left rear of my vehicle drops down and I hear a scraping immediately pushing the clutch and that's when I see my left rear wheel rolling by me at 55 miles an hour. Look back see the sparks flying off my brake drum dragging on the highway. Slow to a stop and inspect the damage. I'm using wheel spacers in order to use 16 in Tacoma steel wheels. After a year and a half evidently the left rear wheel spacer aluminum was wallowed out by the steel studs and became loose. It came off taking two wheel lugs with it. Luckily my tire did not hit any of the oncoming cars as it rolled and bounced it almost 60 miles an hour into the ditch and across the highway.
Luckily I do not need wheel spacers on the rear I just put them on so the tires would be the same width/track as the front. I was able to unbolt the wallowed out wheel spacer from the rim and bolt the rim back on with only four lugs and still get to my destination. Brake drum got dented I can feel it pulsing when I hit the brakes. Hopefully using the center punch and knocking out the two broken lugs won't be more difficult than it was on my Chevy never done that on a LC yet........ 6 lug rims aren't really necessary on a vehicle the size of the LC, after today I know why and I'm glad I have them. It allows you to lose or break one or two and still get home.

The real reason I personally don't use wheel spacers/adapters is from all the carnage I have seen up close from my time spent working at Discount Tire many years ago. They were real popular back then and must still be today.

This is my first use of wheel spacers. The spacers I have are two inches. Really I only need .75. I question the quality of the aluminum. Fitment may also be a little questionable. I'll be inspecting everything on all four corners and reinstalling with some loctite and retorquing everything down when I get to repairing the wheel studs.
I haven't heard or seen all the horror stories that you speak of, but that's just due to my lack of exposure to wheel spacers. Right now I'm thinking they would be more durable on a lightweight car with smaller tires. There is a large chunk of rubber missing from my left rear tire that got cut off try to get out of a mud hole that had pierced steel plate landing mat in it. You don't feel the vibration because it's on the back. Chances are that put some extra stress vibration on that wheel spacer.

For the majority of you guys that have speedometers that read in kilometers and would like an inexpensive solution, the HUD I installed last week works very well (both in accuracy and visibility). It locks onto the satellites very quickly.
Do share the details on this HUD please. I never did use my overlay that I made since my speedo plate wasn't metal.
This unit is on the low end of cost (~ $30.00). You can spend a lot more.
This photo sucks (what my eyes see and what the camera sees aren’t even close).
The shape of the 70 Series dash seems custom made for a HUD.
This unit auto dims at night and the kit came with a small reflective film for the windshield.
The image is actually very clear even in bright sunshine and includes a compass. It normally locks on to the satellites before I leave my driveway.
