nice abyss...hope there are no spiders waiting in there......

Some of us don’t need fancy gauge lights. Just kidding - I’m hoping the one Gary has will cut it. Would be cool to have some idea where my knobs are...

And I 100% guarantee there are spiders in there this thing hasn’t moved in months.

Welded up the flares tonight. Definitely amateur hour over here - some warping and potato-chipping without question but I think they’ll work. Learning a LOT about metal with these things and not all of it is fun.

Welders go easy on me I have no idea what I’m doing, and have yet to clean anything up.

Surprisingly - both flares lay flat on the floor and don’t appear warped or wobble. They seem “flat” until you clamp them to the truck.

I think what happened is the backing plate actually pulled “up” onto the weld right along the top edge despite the two flares being bolted together.

It doesn’t seem like it’s pulling out the body panels any when I clamp them flat, so I’m hoping the gaps will get taken up by the rubber fender welting.

A day a FAIL ... ugh.

Tried to take off my beanie because I was getting hot and dropped my headlamp and broke it. $60 later for 2 new lamps from the local hunting supply store (who is out of all 9mm and a bunch of other rounds) and I'm back to work. Plan was to do the last of the PITA part today ... injectors, fuel rail and connect at the fuel filter.

As I was swearing at trying and failing to get the filter banjo in without dropping the crush washer I notice a loose connector. I broke off the knock sensor ... *&^%!!

Clean break, I remove the sensor and figure I will RTV the housing back on ... NOPE. Freaking housing is stuck inside the harness. Tried to remove it, but it was more brittle than thin ice. Ended up taking pliers and breaking everything off (Hulk smash!!) and spent time looking up all the proper parts for replacement (that amount of time is 2 beers btw). Now I sit and wait for the parts to show up.

Guess I will work on the radiator mounts and stuff tomorrow, but can't really move forward on the pass side until this sensor is replaced. Now I really wish the store had the 9mm ammo so I could go out back and shoot things.

some flap discs will hide the evi.....i mean will clean those up just fine.

100% going to flap disk the cross-welded spots. I was hoping to get the welds clean looking enough to paint over them without flap disking the hell out of them and for the most part they came out alright but there’s a few that look really crappy.

I got it mounted on my toolbox...

I've been slowly learning the ins and outs of CNC. Here is a nameplate that I created in Fusion360, milled on a Tormach 1100M vertical CNC mill, painted, and then polished. It turned out pretty much exactly how I wanted it to. It's about 1.5" x 7.5" for reference. It's pretty amazing to be able to draw something up and then hold the finished aluminum piece in your hand!

Now, the question is, was he going to say "evil" or "evidence" there? :p

He's a Hill William.

^^^ 100% stealing this. As a resident of Cecil County, my family is constantly calling me a hillbilly. Now I know how to correct them.

He's not wrong either way. The second fare looks a lot less crapped than the first one. I won't claim either are close to "good" but given that they are there to smash into trees, I'm not overly concerned with aesthetics.

Go for it, I stole it from an old episode of The Beverly Hillbillies. I think Mrs. Drysdale used it

Nice.

I'm curious to find out what the issue is.

The time circuits are fried....and it will never fly again....but the good news is, where we're going we dont need roads.
