And here's what my new storage cabinet looks like, built by club member Ben Foltz (fireball). He and his crew did a bang up job and gave me exactly what I asked for. Made it as big as possible to provide as much storage space as possible. No more plastic bins or boxes in the back of the 40 now! Took all the spares and parts and tools that had been scattered and now have them stored pretty much easy to get at. A big improvement and the box actually looks great in the back of the 40. Has two 36" long drawers that pull out, and a storage bin over each wheelwell. Also has a hidden table top with cup holders over the passenger side 36" drawer.
Also mounted a new fire extinguisher courtesy of another club member Mike Vogt. Previously my extinguisher was in one of the plastic boxes and not so easy to get at. Last eyar when Charlton's 40 dash caught fire it was a good thing a few of the guys had extinguishers handy.

I've disconnected the wire to the sending unit and the gauge dropped to no reading at all. So, I'm thinking my gauge cluster is ok and the issue is with the sending unit. Just ordered a new sending unit. Will provide an update once installed. Thanks Brian for getting me pointed in the right direction!
Do not attach the sending wire to the ground terminal on the new sending unit (tack welded to the sender housing). Doing so WILL short out the gauge in the cluster.
Ask me how I know. I would cut the terminal off...

New oil pressure sending unit installed! Problem fixed!

Yes, Spector told me about that! Apparently that grounding tab is not used for U.S. Land Cruisers

Made a trans mount spacer and modified the cross member on my FZJ80 to work with the NV4500

Working on finding more garage space for the 74 FJ55 I just bought from Gary. The stable is getting full. That's a good problem to have! Gary had previously posted a description and some pics.

The scary thing is 5 days ago I had no plans of buying anything, wasn't even on my radar. Went to Gary's on Saturday to pick up 60 parts and I swear the 55 was calling my name! Eric showed up with his 55 and my mind started spinning. Left that day but couldn't get it out of my head. Next came the negotiation, test drive and that was it, had to have it. Told the wife after the deal was done. Survived the brief repercussions. Finalized the paperwork today.

MANY THANKS TO GARY!! Knowledgable, patient, fair and honest guy. An absolute pleasure to work with.

Spent my weekend driving the 40 - set out Sunday morning, drove it about 30 miles round trip to my favorite mountain biking trails, then in to town afterward for lunch with some friends.

Later on I ran a few more errands, and by the time I got home, it would barely idle

So naturally I dug in, pretty much immediately discovered the huge vacuum leak from the carburetor base gasket. This is about the third time this has happened in the past hundred fifty miles, since installing my new SMI quadrajet.

The remedy? Loosen all 4 bolts, then re-tighten to 15ft.lbs. in a cross pattern. Runs like a top again.

Wondering if I have the wrong base gasket or something...

Finally got the 80 up on the lift to take a peek yesterday...three days before it's scheduled to be taken out to Moab with @shmukster and @Pacer .

I knew it needed front brakes...so, that's done. What I didn't know was how badly bent my "heavy duty" tie rod was. Damn, how did I do this? it sits behind the axle and was bent FORWARD! Pulled it, and straightened it out with the press. Looks pretty straight now.

I topped off misc fluids, torqued misc fasteners, then went to torque the knuckle stud nuts. The left side was perfect, went to check the right side, and wait a minute, there's only three studs! Damn, one had sheared off. I was pretty lucky, and it came out with relative ease, but still involved some disassembly. Now I just need to reassemble, install some Alternator belts and I'm, hopefully. good to go!

Yeah, do you have all four new ones?
I do if you need'em in a hurry.

I have a used one that will be suitable. I have to rebuild this axle when I get back from Moab anyway, and will probably replace them all then. I'm just glad I saw it, that could have caused a real bummer out on the trail...
